I played both for the first times recently, and I think it's the better game. Both are great, of course, but Tropical Freeze has a better OST (especially since it includes some of the best tracks from the original trilogy), more exciting levels, and integrates collectibles into the game better.
DKC2 has better bosses and more variety of gameplay, but I get tired of the more gimmicky levels.
