Overwatch has extremely basic gunplay without much depth to it. The satisfaction comes from knowing you played right and your team did losing because people continuously can't perform their roles is not fun. But then again even when i win in OW its not as fun as winning in the games listed above.
Maybe because a majority of OW has a distinct lack of individual skill and you can excel with a character faster then you can learn how to use a single gun to atleast half its potential in a game like Unreal.

A rework wouldn't help Symmetra that much. The entire game would have to get reworked to make her perfectly balanced.
She is almost useless on attack and KOTH and this shouldn't be the case, this is shit balancing. They could change this by, for example, not making the attacking team base advance every time you achieve a checkpoint. This way a teleporter would be almost mandatory even for attackers. Same with Team Fortress 2.
However, she is amazing for defense. This alone makes her far from the worst.

I come from a dota background and it was one of the few games I took seriously. Pretty average player in terms of individual skill but I'd like to think I work well with a team and also off of a team. When shit aint fun you gotta step back and think about what you're getting frustrated over. Dota is a game that goes for a long ass time and takes a lot of investment to git gud so its easier to get mad at
Getting mad over picks in a game as casual as fucking overwatch is nuts. I'd say nearly every hero is viable enough in regular matches to not be useless in the hands of someone who is skilled with them. Sure, ideally everyone would pick top tier and have a balanced composition but it aint always necessary and creating conflict among a team arguing over pick does nothing good for your chance of winning.
Players in all team based games are so fucking quick to turn on teammates. FAR more likely than puttin' some bantz to the opposing team. Channeling that frustation into shit-talk for the enemy team is far more gratifying than creating a shit storm in your own team; its more fun and doesn't hurt your chance to win.
Sure there's some shame if you still lose but true champs can dish out the bants even on the losing side.

Online communities were generally better back then.
CS/HLDM/Tribes 2 were goofy fun but had decent skill ceilings. Even the friends you'd make would be fun fighting against. Seeing the same couple of dudes in the server. Being chill with the admin to change the rules and maps every now and then.
Vanilla WoW took far more communication. Good players were rewarded with guild invites, noobs were generally helped if they were salvageable, people who ninja'd loot would be called out on realm forums.
Bf 2/1942/Vietnam were fun as fuck. The worst cancer was faggots tking each other to use the jets, but most servers cracked down on that. Clans were always recruiting and generally would even recruit new guys and teach them how to play better.
None of that shit happens now. Vidya is just corporate consuming culture, with ESPORTS tacked onto things to make playing rooty tooty cartoon shooties have some sort of real life "xtreem" merit to it. Nothing surprising. They're the third worst players in my personal list because everytime I have played with them I've found germans are completely unable to think outside of the box.
An example is what happened when I used to play S4league and a few days only the german server had players:

Meta in games is fine as long as it doesn't dictate what works in the core gameplay.
Example certain things about SFV like the 8f delay/lack of hurtboxes/recovery on alot of good poke normals make it difficult to play defensively/reactively. It is still possible to do so and be godlike though its just harder with the game in its certain state.
Also in games like GG you can play defensively and win by earning momentum from your opponents missteps.
In games controlled by their meta they turn into this limited husks where the game plays itself more then the player plays it past a certain skill level. In the end luck determines who wins more if both players are using top tier meta.
Meta is boring but casuals hype up meta games more then anything. Mostly because its not mechanical skill they have to learn to be decent at them. Its just learning things like opening a book but without learning have to really read.
Its the equivalent of if you took a gun and shot it and they saw how you pulled the trigger and held it and instantly knew how to do it themselves. Instead of the reality where learning to feel it out and control the recoil is a thing.

This way, there's only three reasons they may be playing a video game:
1- It's the flavor of the month/year and all his friends are doing it
2- They want to show everyone how original and not boringly normal they are
3- To get that feeling that they're good at something in a really easy way
This results in a complete lack of respect and horrible behavior, as for them it's not a serious hobby or something that they really care about.

Its normal among modern competitive players. You have to understand that the OW crowd is mostly people who started to get into competitive games with LoL and WoW arenas. People who never actually played for the competition or to become better at a game, but for achievements, recognition and being part of 'something bigger'. They also grew up in moderates chats which is why stuff like gg ez or simple insults trigger them so hard.
No one who grew up in 1.6, CPMA, BW, TFT, CnC etc. would even bat an eyelash at being called a nigger. We realized that its just words, flung at us by randoms who are blowing off steam. Modern 'gamers' dont get that though, they are living in a safe space and dont want to be touched or insulted. Its also why they play team based competitive games because the genre enabled them to just shift blame no matter what happens.
