Blizzard has been dumbing their game down for normies since TBC.

FFXIV is too hard anyway

I was a heroic raider in MoP before they made the "Mythic" swap and I find even story content in FFXIV to be more difficult
>>

Is FFXIV any good? I got that MMO itch.

Why would they remove that? They are literally just removing pure fun. It makes me think they just went "Hm, is this fun? Take it out"
>>

Apparently they lost the "server side code" and never put it back in
>>
>>344070408
That's such a bullshit excuse. They knew what they were doing was bullshit and they did it anyway. Gee, private servers run that shit perfectly fine but SOMEHOW they couldn't the code.

God, that makes me angrier than it should. Those disrespectful fucks think their customers are just retards. Granted, many are, but anyone can see how that's bullshit.

Private servers emulate WoW server side code to create what it is. The world server, the login server, and how everything is scripted. They are often buggy and not anything close to Blizzlike. If you played Nostalrius you can see this first hand how Sithilus quests didn't work at all, character draw distance was pitiful, and there were class bugs like Frost Nova taking longer to break.
>>
>you never needed any of that anyway
not really relevant
it, along with the old talent trees, created the illusion of choice and character customization
it made your character more of an individual, something that is fucking dying in all games

In my opinion, it's the best themepark MMO available right now.
The trial goes to level 35 now, which is a pretty good look at the game, before it stopped at 20 which is when the combat is still really slow since you don't have abilities to use inbetween GCD

Also, Paladin is a pretty boring tank until 45ish.
>>
>>344072534
Blizzard doesn't want to work with people who create pirated servers of their games, they aren't Valve.
>>
>>344072974
Granted, that 5 million count is just the total number of people who have bought the game and actually paid for a subscription fee, at one point or another.
But that's still pretty good for an MMO that's only a few years old now, I don't see much advertising for it either
>>
Western casuals are retards, they are also ruining FFXIV now.

One thing I really enjoy from FFXIV is how each server has their own community. Leviathan is the midcore group, Gilgamesh is the hardcore group, Balmung is the casual weeb group, etc. Once you do something stupid or good in party finder, people on your server will eventually know your name and word spreads fast.
>>

Remember when playing Vanilla WoW and somebody ninja'd any good stuff from a dungeon or raid? The whole server would know that guy was a ninja.

They remove/replace spells all the time. Cleave was removed in WoD but it's back now for Legion, so whatever.
The big thing is a lot of spells are restricted to certain specs now, druids can't use Mark of the Wild unless they are resto. It's not so much that spells were removed, but that they've become spec restricted.
>>
>>344075421
Blizzard wouldn't port it if they couldn't do that, it's built into their games now. Removing it would mean extra work, and I'm not sure if Blizzard is up for that.

Anyways, that looks pretty cool, but I feel like your typing would be slow as fuck. It also looks cumbersome to hold
>>
>>344074565
In end game content if things are going wrong, having the option to sprint outweighs TP management.

Same here. I'm getting burned out on ESO and need something else for some time. Can I play with a controller? How is the PvP? how does the economy work? Do I have a lot of room to succeed with any class doing any role?
>>
>>344067921
Items are completely trash because the dev team is easily triggered by things that might be hard to balance. Content can be fun but far too much of it is targeted at the mouthbreather crowd.

It's probably worth it up to 60. I can't really recommend raiding right now since you're doing it just for the experience of the fights and any sense of character progression has been completely shit on.
>>
>>344079174
>druids can't use Mark of the Wild unless they are resto
meh i get what they're trying to do, but small tweaks to buffs after the cata homogenization is polishing a turd
>>
>>344067921
It doesn't force you to interact with anyone. Even raids and high-end crafting only require the odd acquaintance to reasonably complete or obtain. The biggest perpetrator behind this aspect is the instanced group finding system. Dungeons are linear and repetitive, bosses are all fought in circle/square arenas, and combat consists of high group synchronization and Simon-says styled mechanics. Gear progression is pretty much just a treadmill with almost no room for alternatives or variance. Stats and customization (non-appearance wise) are a joke. The story and characters are fine and probably on the decent side of the spectrum as far as Final Fantasy stories go. Side-content is either repetitive and grind heavy or extraneous distractions.

All in all, it can be fun if you are a fan of the FF series and if you play with the right group of people. It will wear on you however, and will likely make you wish it would branch out a bit and try different things (which it might start doing if the endless dungeon addon is any indication of things to come.) However, its deeper issues reside within the core of the game's design and will likely never change.
>>
>>344079663

>>
>>344070408

>>
>>344079702
The entire game can be played with a controller. Also DO NOT get the game on PS3, it's a fucking lag fest. It's much better on PS4, but the game runs and looks the best on PC. Surprise!

The PVP is very much an afterthought, but they've been focusing on it more and more as of late. There's an arena now, complete with team rankings and ratings and such. There's a few battlegrounds too. But the game is PVE focused at it's core. However, they did talk about the possibility of adding open world PVP and/or dueling. I doubt it would happen though, but it would be pretty sweet if it was implemented and your PVP allegiance was by Grand Company (basically the armies of each of the city-states, there are 3).

Economy I'm really not that sure of, as that is mainly reserved for people interested in crafting and/or gathering. A lot of the highly sought after armor and house furniture is made by players.

Each class is fairly rigid on how they perform, which in my opinion, is one of the game's weak points. Your White Mage will play exactly like someone else's White Mage. However, you can switch classes at any time as long as you aren't in a dungeon (there's a few exceptions) and you can do everything on a single character. The games sub is also $2 cheaper if you only have a single character.

I say give it a shot, it's a very relaxing game with a lot to do, and especially comfy with a controller. I still recommend a keyboard for communication though.

At least they're trying. This is also the first expansion since CATA that has a 3D animated log-in screen.

There's clearly a lot more work going into Legion than previous expansions, but that doesn't mean it's going to be good.
>>
>>344080898
Thanks, I'll give it a try.
>>
>>344079702
>How is the PvP?
Awful. The game isn't built for it and every game mode they've released has been bad except the arena, which suffers because of the first part. At one point pretty early on the producer had to personally ask the playerbase to stop jumping in pvp because the movement estimation at the time didn't apply to people that were jumping, so you couldn't hit them.
>>
>>344081590
You're welcome. Ask more questions if you like, I will try to answer as honestly and factually as I can.

Also, the trial stops at level 35.

>ESO is free after initial purchase with an optional paid sub

>>
>>344067261
It's probably part of some longer goal, like a future sequel or spiritual sequel which they're designing around a low number of abilities and inputs and possibly on console. They might be aiming to get the negative backlash out of the way now on a game in its twilight they don't care very much about.
>>
>>344081743
To tell you the truth, it's because the Japanese are scared of the concept of free to play. To them, it means the game is not worth playing.

Also the game is doing really well right now and still getting updates, it would be silly of them to halt the cash flow the game is bringing in.
>>
>>344081743
It's SE. Fucking FFXI still has a sub AND you have to pay an extra dollar for every character AND they just announced the option to buy 2 more subs to give you more more inventory for armor like 2 days ago

>>344067921
Unsubbed a few days ago, couldn't make it to 60. The urge to log on was completely gone. I really enjoyed at first but at some point it got too repetitive for me. The story has its moments but most quests are filler shit and there's probably 5 different types of quests that just repeat infinitely.

>>
>>344067921

>>
>>344083545

Yes, but the level of complexity of mechanics in new raids means that just being told what to do isn't enough to make it as mechanically bare as TBC raids. You're delusional if you think release Sunwell is even close to the complexity of a Heroic raid in current WoW.
>>
>>344083380
This. The rigid and decently balanced trinity roles allow the devs to do some real interesting things in hard fights. Thordan's Reign was the first time in a long time where I legitimately felt out of my league, with the dragon's gaze + towers + aoe combos.
>>
>>344083675
No one gives a fuck about sunwell or heroics. I'm talking about how retarded WoW raiding is now with all the addons people have at their disposal. There's no surprise or actual learning anymore, all you have to do is follow what DBM says. If you don't, you're only holding your shitty 25 man raid group back.
>>
>>344083545
Not the devs fault that people got better at their game. Also doesn't make the encounters less complex, the existence of DBM actually allows the devs to make them even more off the wall.
>>
>>344083921

Then don't use DBM. You've always been expected to know the mechanics if you're in a progression group and it isn't literally day 1 of the raid being out.
>>
>>344067921
Content out the wazoo. If you want to waste 8+ hours a day on an MMO, play XIV.
the quality of said content ranges from person to person, there's just a lot of it.

>>344084153
Literally every raid group these days requires DBM unless you're doing poopsocking world first progression. Even the world first archimonde kill had people using DBM with strats they used from killing him on the PTR.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vx6ipbVOWvY
>>
>>344083921
This whole conversation began because you, or atleast the person I thought I've been talking to, said they've been dumbing down mechanics since TBC which is factually incorrect.

But you seem to be under the impression that you could walk into a mythic raid with just DBM and be completely fine, because apparently their is no learning to raids anymore.
>>
>>344084429
The hardest part about mythic raiding is finding people with the same schedule and item level as you, the actual mechanics are easymode if you follow fucking simon says.
>>
>>344083380

Hard maybe, but as a MNK, A4S was one of the most boring fights I've ever done. Stupid long target dummy fight where I didn't even have to hit positionals until the last phase.

Every other savage fight in HW has been good, but A4S just left me hating showing up for raid time during the last tier.
>>
>>344085661
A3S was really good but occasional server lag ruined it for me. Midas was a lot better than Gordias though. A7S was a super fun fight and I love how it focused mainly on mechanics rather than DPS checks.

I still find shit to do that's fun and I played for thousands of hours. There's more to a MMO than just raiding ya know.

Care to offer some explanation, friend?

Modern addons trivialize "complex" mechanics and the core spells in legion are just Blizzards way of homogenizing playstyles because they are too arsed to balance their fucking game.

I bought it during the steam summer sale and it was worth it. People on Exodus seem to be friendly and I enjoy how comfy it is. Some random crafter guy offered to make me gear for free and I was even able to visit his small house in some housing ward.

I blame WoWrefugees. Now that Nostalrius is failing and retail WoW has gone to shit, most of them are migrating to FFXIV.

>Thordan's Reign was the first time in a long time where I legitimately felt out of my league, with the dragon's gaze + towers + aoe combos.

IKR? Everytime I reached that phase I just praid for a miracle to happen.

That's why not having things like DBM is a good thing.
>>

Not the same anon but he's right. Everything you do in WoW's PVE is trivialized because you have to play with addons telling you what to do and where to go. There's no skill on that, it's just following orders.

Like...remember Mother on Black Temple? She would mark 3 random players and those players had to run in opposing directions or they would die. DBM just put a fucking ARROW on the top of each player's head so they knew at what direction to run. That's literally for retards.

Also we have the common

>GO HERE!
>GO THERE!
>SKILL X IN 10 SECONDS, PREPARE YOUR DEFENSIVE CD!
>SKILL Y IN 10 SECONDS, PREPARE YOUR CUT CAST SKILL!
>YOU ARE TOO CLOSE TO X PLAYER, SPLIT!
>STAY OUT OF THIS AOE!

If that's not trivializing mechanics I don't know what is.

Can you get a free game time like on WoW with tokens?
>>
>>344084067
This is true, Blizzard has said in the past that they create encounters with DBM/BigWigs or whatever in mind
>>
>>344084067
but it's not off the wall if DBM flashes on your screen telling you in advance what exactly to do, the game is still treating you like you're a fucking 5 year old.

FFXIV is shit, it's more shit than WoW is now which is saying a lot.

>class fantasy is yelled into peoples ears as they remove poisons from all rogue specs but one which that spec is now being focused on bleeds
