What are some minor things you like in vidya?
>tfw fast moving backgrounds like clouds

>comfy hub area to relax in between the action
>>344012230
Gambling with in game currencies with NPC.
Kill any NPCs.
Rain.
Especially if it stops when you go under things. Bonus points for it changing its sound as you go under different shelters
>you can double jump

All correct. All so satisfying.
Vending machines. Inns
Animal Crossing is literally full of every comfy things I like in vidya.
several different walking/running speeds for strolling through the town or keeping the pace with NPCs.
When you can eat different kinds of food.
black people dying
>>344013084
This
Also i love time schedules/limits. Stuff like animal crossing, dead rising, The Ship, pikmin
I love having to take care of needs and developing a schedule
Attack animation-cancelling dash/roll move
>>344012230
Cloth physics, reacting to character movement and wind.
>>344012230
Smooth, fast paced movement with multiple movement options
I liked how X-Wing and TIE Fighter gave you medals and promotions, and in X-Wing, you could actually see them on your dress uniform.
>>344012230
any forward leap/jump where the character lands on their hands. Sly 2 had it as an unlockable, total overdose kind of had it as a mechanic.
Bonus points if you can smash through objects and terrain headfirst.sorry for the tiny webm, had to pull file from google
When the music blends flawlessly from one scene/location to another
see: Halo 1/2/3
>Weather reacting to game environment, rain not dripping through roofings and drying up your character.
>How rain makes your clothes wet and shiny.
>Snow landing on your character and sticking to your body when walking/rolling through it.
>War chatter like in Bad Company (a grenade enters a window and your character shouts "OH FUCK A GRENADE!)
>Realistic sounds, proper acoustics from gunshots in the distance and loud explosion and even engine sounds being LOUD.
>Highly detailed, realistic and smooth animations for movement and environmental reactions (MGSV being one of my favourites aswell as GTA V.
when game menus are just a simple still picture and some text as buttons, but they have really fucking cool music and sound effects.

all the shit you listed is not "minor" at all.
>>344015169
yes they are
>>344012230
all the sound in GTA V
>driving over a wooden bridge
>hitting those plastic things in the middle of the road
>hitting gravel
>>344015341
- sophisticated atmosphere effects (realistic weather, intricate rain visuals and complex snow physics)
- sophisticated audio (realistic sounds, complicated acoustics)
- sophisticated visuals (high amounts of detail, animations that are realistic and smooth, animations that use inverse kinetics to react to the environment)
no, they fucking aren't you retard.
at MOST, the only thing in there that is minor and cool is when a character reacts to a grenade by shouting....that's it.
learn what "minor" means. none of that shit is simple, or minor.
>>344014780
>>344015443
>spend a fuckton of time on details like that
>don't include a main menu to prevent having to load several times when wanting to play with your friends
>Banter between teammates, or between you and the boss.
Always love it when it's done right.
>>344014764
>The Sun Rises
That fucking howl.
>>344015634
difficult to create, yes. That doesn't mean they aren't minor details.
>>344015634
Chill out spergo they're all superfluous things, unimportant, minor.
>>344016147
i didn't say "difficult", i said "sophisticated". those aren't the same thing.

again, they are NOT minor details.

mi·nor
ˈmīnər
adjective
1.
lesser in importance, seriousness, or significance
According to this, all those things are minor. All of those things are totally unnecessary to most games regardless of how cool they are and how hard they are to implement.
Ability to mute the voice.
Or is that a major thing nowadays?
>>344016348
Whatever word you want to use. They are still minor details and not major elements of most games.
>>344014780
>War chatter like in Bad Company (a grenade enters a window and your character shouts "OH FUCK A GRENADE!)
>Realistic sounds, proper acoustics from gunshots in the distance and loud explosion and even engine sounds being LOUD.
das it mane
>>344016348
>again, they are NOT minor details.
If were to take them all away the core of the game would not change.
>>344015634
>>344016215
get fucked, they are not minor things.
and if they truly were "unimportant", they wouldn't be one of the key driving forces that sell modern games (muh realism).
there's a difference between something being minor and something clearly being one of the major things that are used in the marketing for a game.
for example, if i was talking about HL2 back when it first came out and referring to the smooth animation, as per that persons original post, it would be considered MAJOR...because that was literally one of the major things used in the marketing of the game. the E3 tech demo video even has them bragging on about it.
now a "minor" thing in HL2 would be something like "when you can combine ctrl and jump to navigate around things easier".
see what i mean?
Construction elements in games that don't need it.
>skate 3

>the game has a really good soundtrack
A good soundtrack can make such a big difference, especially in racing games
>bosses have named special attacks, with flashy visual effects and sound when they trigger
>the game slows down when the final boss HP reaches 0
>>344016351
i already know the meaning of that word. you're just further strengthening my point.
again, stop talking about "how hard they are" or "how cool they are".
if it's a "major" thing used to market the game ("wow look how fucking real crysis looks guys!")...there's nothing "minor" about it.
that's something that is NOT "lesser in importance", because it's one of the selling points of the game.
tell me how many people didn't fall into buying crysis because of the realism factor. there's nothing minor about what that anon mentioned, and no one can convince me otherwise.
>>344016562
if they were to take them away, the game WOULD change. eg. if you have realistic atmosphere effects, and they're obscuring things in the distance...if you take them away you're literally now able to see the enemy from any distance, both close and far.
if there's a huge difference, it's not minor.
>>344013204
woah bro! very edgy! youre so fucking cool!

I don't think anyone but you gives a shit so if you could just stop that'd be great.
>>344016589

>>344016943
>>you are only allowed to make one point in your argument, not multiple
idiot, they are literally using the presence of complexity as the thing to be marketed. i never moved away from it, I was explaining why that was a selling point.
try again.
>>344012230
good movement
i wish there was a game made entirely about movement, kinda like mirrors edge but with rocket jumping, surfing, and all kinds of stuff

Dudeski, chill out man. Rain making clothes wet is usually considered a minor detail, yes it takes a fuckload of programming to create and implement but if it were removed from a game it wouldn't make too much of a difference (as long as the clothing was dark enough to not look jarringly dry in rain.)
Basically, there are minor details in games that take a fuckload of programming, so I understand your point in calling them major. But no one cares man.
>>344012230
actual scarcity of ammunition. most games you might as well be wearing a fucking infinity bandana.

try zombie master
i think you would love it
it also has a brilliant strategy side to it where only one guy is playing like a RTS and controlling the zombies on the zombie side
for JRPGs specifically
>regular battle theme changes to reflect the tone of the story, goes from light-hearted to serious, etc
>visible armor changes
>changing your character order lets you walk around on the map as someone other than the MC (so fucking minor but SO fucking satisfying, yet so few games do it)
>>344017465
So you're mostly relying on melee?

>>344017416
perfectly chill man.
i agree that rain itself is minor, but the whole bundle of "realistic atmosphere" certainly isn't.
if someone had just said "when rain makes things look wet" i'd understand.

i sure hope not, this is an imageboard after all.
