Since the rx 480 was a poo card, should I bite the bullet or get this gtx 1070? or is evga ever going to fucking stock their cards
>>
>>343884017
MSI is a good brand and they use military grade metals like EVGA so go for it.

Everyone realizes the motherboard killing part of the 480 only happens if your motherboard is a price of shit with an awful power phase section right?
>>
>>343886298
>military grade metals
>>
>>343886694

It's still a shit card even if it doesn't kill your computer though.
>>
>poo card
legitimate laugh out lol
>>
>>343886694
and 3rd party cards will have 8pin power connectors which completely rectify the issue...

i'm still amazed that people are surprized a reference design card is shit.

It's like everyone forgot about the nVidia 8800GT reference cooler blunder
>>
>>343884017
its alright. the cooler is a bit cheap but the card only draws around 140w... so it will be good.
>>
>>343886768
How is it shit m8, it's the sweet spot 200 buckaroo card that has solid performance.
>>
>>343886882
oh wow its almost like it was 10 years ago, who the fuck cares
>>
>>343886882

That happened a decade ago.

OP here I ended up getting it for $348 but that fan is bothering me, how were the temps on the founder's edition? pretty sure it uses the same cooler as FE. Also that shit sold out fast, I refreshed the page and there was already scalpers selling it for $500
>>
>>343887059
>how were the temps on the founder's edition
fine, 60-70 under load
why does it matter? legit interested
>>
Gigabyte 950 OC +FX6300 worth it of i'm satisfied with 60fps@medium settings?
>>
>>343887225
because of nvidia fire memes, honestly it's mainly just about wondering if waiting for the other cards with different cooler to be stocked is worth it. I don't really plan on overclocking anyway so I think i'll be fine
>>
>>343887059
>I ended up getting it for $348
tell us your secrets
>>
>>343887319
Probably not. Save your money for a bigger upgrade next year.
>>
The problem is apparently to do with the Wattman software, amd should be putting a fix out today.

>>343886882
8pins have the same number of 12v connections as the 6 pin cables. From what i understand Last two pins just tell your PSU it can send more than 75 watts over.

Also that one picture of somebody's 24 pin connector being burnt is all melted ON THE 3.3V PIN, not the 12v,The pic of the burnt PCIe slot does seem at least somewhat legitimate

AMD apparently also set the default voltage way too high and people are able to drop the voltage while keeping stock clockspeeds.

I dont mean to shill for amd, im just interested in their shit after my 760 not aging very well

Still gonna wait for an aib 4GB 480.
>>
>>343887396
Fall for the Amazon credit card meme and get $10 pity money from amazon because they fucked up your preorder of a game you ordered a year ago. I'm actually ok with getting the card because I buy almost all my shit from amazon anyway
>>
>>343887059
>>343887360
the FE is a fine cooler. Yes the gpu tends to run at around 80c under load, but that is intended. The default fan curve is optimized for silence.
If you adjust it using msi afterburner or something of that sort, you can push that 80c down to under 60c even if you want at the expense of some extra noise.

Is it worth it? Well, it does improve the boost clock, so you get some performance. But the card doesnt really give a shit if it runs at 80c or 60c.

Bottomline is: blower style (FE) coolers are fine, and you can tweak settings to make it fit your needs.
>>
>>343887059
>>343887360
Nvidia reference cards have been fine for years.
You literally just got a Titan X for $348, the card is
decently quiet and has decent power draw, c'mon
140w whilst slapping the shit out of the RX 480
>>
>>343887623
>>343887702

Ah ok sounds good then I'll keep it
>>
>>343884017
Why would you ever consider an RX 480 if you can afford a 1070?

My friend is offering his R9 390x to me for 150 dollerydoos since he got a 1080, is it better than the RX 480?
>>
Figured this would be the best place to ask this.

Is the 1080ti worth waiting for? Or just bite on the 1070
>>
>>343887901
yes, if power consumption doesnt bother you

>>
>>343887940
The 1080ti wont be out till 2017
>>
>>343887897
because it was supposed to be the 1080p sweet spot, but I might get a 1440p monitor anyway so might as well get the 1070
>>
>>343888010
Never go for reference designs.
>>
>>343888010
Does nvidia have their own tan?
>>
>>343887940
There's going to be a huge difference between 1070 and 1080ti both in terms of price and performance.

unless you are playing at super high refresh rate and 1440p+ i'd just get the 1070.
>>

>>
>>343887501
>Also that one picture of somebody's 24 pin connector being burnt is all melted ON THE 3.3V PIN, not the 12v

Actually, the one that burned is indeed a pair of 12v connector.
The chart that floats around needs to be mirrored since its from solder point of view.

It is however, still the user fault for overloading the 12v power by connecting 3 RX 480 without any additional power supply.

SApphire is always really good.
Wait for it.
But powercolor is also really good and much cheaper.
>>

Shill detected.
MSI uses the cheapest components they can find, and dont give a shit about quality.
They just slap "gaming" onto this crap and sell it.

About 60-70 USD for the 2GB variant.

4GB variant can vary, but is over 110 USD from what I've seen.

damn, its not like its a sought after item either. I don't even have anyone that I could give it away to since my friends use consoles

asus, xfx don't

Gpu thread, but fuck it
I have an old i3-4160, want to upgrade, should I just get some kind of i7 on the same socket or replace the mainboard and get a skylake i5? Pretty similar cost
>>
>>343886298
msi customer support literally doesn't know what they are doing, wouldn't be surprised if all their corporate guidebooks were in Chinese or something
>>

If you do work stuff on your PC like rendering then get the i7, for pure gaming an i5 will more than do.
