I actually had a bootleg Gameboy cart that had like 10 games on it. Most of them sucked but it had Super Mario Land 2 on it.
But the save system wasn't implemented. But it's no different from SMB3 really..

it's a badly translated version of Keitai Denju Telefang, which didn't release outside of japan
the areas and story had its moments despite the poor translation ("Shit, remember it!")
Some mon designs were pretty awesome too, but the evolutions usually wound up being fucking grotesque
I never managed to beat the postgame hyperboss Star&Stream though

i had this when i was like 7-8, i had it for at least 6-7 years until i gave it away to a friend when i was in middle school.
i actually could even borrow a cartridge with different games from other people and they worked
the cartridge included had 64 NES games, and a lot of them were Nintendo / NES classics, i'd say this cheap bootleg console introduced me to gems i didn't know were gems until i saw references of those games and their characters as trophies in SSBM.
