Nobody with more than half a brain wants anything like this.

No future shit, either.

Just make a realistic crime simulator. San Andreas was fun and all but at this point the graphics cal for something a bit more down to earth. Please use Red Dead Redemption as a basis for the new game, but maybe tone it down even a bit further than that.

Nah. GTA belongs in the center of the world. The next city should be Houston, and that's pretty realistic considering the amount of crime there. A modern Vice City would also be nice.

Arguable. 70s New York was the most violent city in America if you want to go for a more "realistic" tone after GTA V.

lol ok

San Andreas was vastly superior because it had character and Samuel L. Jackson. I felt like I was playing an Ice Cube music video. Also the story was based.

V was just bland and empty as fuck. The characters were boring and underused. The only good ones in the entire game were Trevor and Michael and Michael was underdeveloped and Trevor was overdone. Rockastar needs to get it's shit together and write a good story. That's what should come first immediately after gameplay. Maybe then you could justify the lack of *interesting* content.

>It used to be like watching youth theatre! The most you could possibly get in the world at one time was three people. It felt so amateurish, but we used to have to push it into the game and hope we could make it just about okay. Now, it's not like they're shooting a big budget Hollywood movie, they are. It's just that there's more of it and they're chopping it into smaller pieces.

San Andreas (and the older GTAs in general) are flatly embarrassing compared to GTA V when it comes to story execution. how anyone doesn't agree with this is beyond me. it just used to feel so unprofessional, amateurish, cringy to watch, whereas it's movie-quality now.

lol I played San Andreas AFTER V and I still think it's better in every single way except maybe shooting. Video games are way too easy nowadays, though.
>>
I'm not from the US, but anyway:
How about a southwestern themed city with a desert-like countryside around it? Every inhabitant would be a cliché with cowboy hat and guns.
It could be kind of like a modern day RDR or something.
>the KKK could be a faction
>you could ride horses instead of just driving cars because of cliché
>you could search for some treasures in some wild-west ghost towns like that one in San Andreas
>there could be a border fence to the south and in some missions you could help/prevent mexicans cross the border
>>
>>343844395
well that's ok, but GTA V has more features and objectively better execution of said features.
>>
>>343844297
>>343844297
You really have no idea what you're talking about. The amateurish feeling is what made the early games so much fun. They are just up their own asses at this point, it seems. They no longer have anything relevant to say because they are part of the system now.
>>

Its like watching a movie.
In fact every modern game is like watching a movie.
A scripted story with no replayability
I remember when games were fun and at least had fun missions.
>Infiltrating area 69

>RC vehicles missions

yeah, it's nostalgia. claiming the old games were better because of their "amateurish feel" is obnoxious and nonsensical.

I liked San Andreas too but GTA V has more to do, feels like an actual recreation of Los Angeles, and has a story that doesn't feel like a 14 year old boy wrote it and hired his friends as voice actors.

here's another way of putting it, by Rockstar Games' Aaron Garbut:
>We’ve come a long, long way. Visual fidelity has knock-ons. San Andreas was effectively a bunch of cubes of various sizes stuck in between roads. I love it, and love what we did, but really that was what it was.

That quote applies to the entire game. GTA is nothing without proper detail, physics, acting, writing, and overall technological finesse. San Andreas was cool but it's thoroughly outdated now and I accept that. Just like I accept Bully, one of my favorite games of all time, as outdated and no longer relevant.

Maybe true, but that's my point. It's PS4 now, it looks real so it should play real. That doesn't mean it should be boring or linear, it means it should be brutal and fun. I want to die faster, kill faster, and crash harder. It'll be great.

from an interview with Dan Houser:

>Do you feel receptive to influences during this period? The first few GTA games felt cinematic. It felt like you were channeling movie culture – has that changed?

>I think we tried to move away from that, quite consciously, after San Andreas. That was for a bunch of reasons, but I suppose primarily we felt that we wanted to say something that was not speaking about movies but about the wider media world. And also, when you're making something about the 80s, you want to talk about 80s media as much as anything else, but with something about 2008 or 2013, I believe we're as equipped to say that as much as anyone else. It no longer felt relevant to us to [pastiche movies]. We'd had a good experience doing that but it was time to move on and do our own thing.

if anything, San Andreas is the game with nothing to say. it's a generic mishmash of early 90s culture and NWA nostalgia.
>>
>>343845780
What they "have to say" is childish and dumb. It's dated literally as soon as they say it. The creators clearly think they are way smarter than they are. Honestly, they should stick to movie references.
>>
>>343845321
To this point all you've been like is
>muh content
>much activities
What's of point of having all this content if it isn't fun?
>no killing spree mode for no reason.
>no frustrating RC missions.
What's even the point?
If I wanted a shit load of activities I'd play watchdogs and that game is flat out boring.

I think you're the one out of touch. the advancement of technology over the past 10 years is what's turned gaming into such a massively successful industry (more-so than it's ever been), as well as removed the stigma of "only kids play video games!". They've finally arrived as a respectable medium of their own, and that's more due to graphics improvements and physics improvements than anything else.

Most people don't want to play something that looks like "cubes of various sizes stuck in between roads". It's toy-like and just not visually pleasing. Same with the physics, in San Andreas cars just stuck to the road, pedestrians had zero weight. GTA V's world feels like an actual place. I understand you're nostalgic but these things aren't even debatable. Los Santos in GTA V essentially IS Los Angeles. Los Santos in San Andreas is a toy set, a few boxes with poorly textured roads separating them.

and CJ had zero personality, even less than Franklin.

see:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAnrRgOIL9c

and compare it to this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QE530zsJU5Q

honestly man I feel like I'm in fucking la la land whenever I talk about this on /v/. just watch the clips, GTA V is in an entirely different stratosphere. feels like a fucking movie in every aspect.
>>
>>343846970
You're missing the point, yes the game looks and feels incredible. Doesn't change the fact the story is jumbled and lacking substance. There is a lot of cool stuff there but none of it was fleshed out. Also, CJ was the most stereotypical character ever which made him awesome within context of the game. It also felt like he had history on Grove Street. Maybe if they'd dedicated more time to their characters (I still think single protagonist is the way to go) it would have turned out better. The characters in V were all mostly forgettable except for Trevor and sort of Michael and Lamar (Franklin a little bit, too, but eeeehhhhhhh with him).
>>
>>343846970
I agree with you wholeheartedly but you have to remember where you are. Show your average person San Andreas and GTA V side-by-side and they'll immediately know what you're talking about. Your average /v/ user, not so much. Way too submerged in gaming 'culture' and nostalgia to understand why GTA V's improvements over San Andreas are so important.
>>
>>343846970
>>343847312
Also, San Andreas felt like it "knew" full what it was, while I think V was a bit up its own ass and self-celebratory to the point of being really obnoxious. I'd often get bored and turn it off after only playing it for 15 minutes at a time because of this. Also, driving and shooting are way too easy and special abilities break the game altogether.

>>
>>343847668
It's not even realistic. I don't want to fight fucking mercenaries and the FIB the whole time. I wanted to be a goddamn bank robber and plan my own sweet heists. They should have dropped the government stuff altogether and just made it a true crime simulator.
>>
>>343846970
>Being that much graphics and muh story guy
Where's the fun content?
Where's the fun activities?
Everything is scripted.
The whole game is linear.
>>
>>343847918
Also the story and characters were vastly superior and more interesting in SA, VC, III, and even IV when compared to V. V is still fun and can be cinematic, but they played the safe route and just gave us another GTA without seemingly putting that much thought into the story or characters. Seriously, I've played the game multiple times and they badly needed a rewrite or two.
>>
>>343847891
But no, they thought that's boring, but it made the series successful for sat for some reason, the devs are so far up their own ass at this point I can see the series failing in the next few years.
>>
>>343848092
GTA 5 had no characters that stood out because muh realism, just a hooker for a cousin and stereotypical white family and a "cracka white devil."
They didn't pass any lines like the old GTA games that had memorable characters.
>>
GTA is just GTA at this point. They need to push the boundaries again and start adding gore and dismemberment and realistic car physics. Not even joking.
>>
>>343848569
Its a lost cause at this point.
The series is dying, maybe not sales wise but it is.
The devs are cocky and the audience is stupid consumers who'd buy anything.

>Triads, Mob, bikies
>Cool architecture
>Distinct areas in the cities with their own vibes/feels
>Good beaches to appease the Vice City guys
>"underground" gun shops from GTA 4 return
>corrupt politics like in GTA 3

Also it'd have to be Sydney or Melbourne because the average citizen of anywhere else in Australia would basically be a boss battle

This, they need to realize right wing politics have things to say and are actually coming back in a big way. They're still underground enough for them capitalize on this, too. They did a little in the last game, but it was still pretty liberal. Honestly, I'm apolitical, but I can see how both sides make good points.
