I believe that Nintendo is trying much to hard to be the family system in America. Obviously, this isn't the case in Japan and in turn it's causing a large rift between some people and Nintendo.
While I don't personally own a Nintendo console since the Gamecube and all of the games I play are on a PC, I can see why this pisses off some many of their fans. It's not NoA/E's own content. It's the content of NoJ and the developer who made it. While they okay the changes NoA/E do, they do it out of ignorance and conformity.
It's like telling people that they can only buy the movies changed for tv versions. You won't see the 30 minutes they cut to fit the 1h31m tv format. You won't get to hear the original dialogue.
