Mechanics are spread out evenly between all roles.
I played Monk through most of Midas, then when I found a new group as Warrior it was a very similar experience. I didn't feel like my mistakes were any more or less punishing on the group. A dead dps is a wipe. I dead tank is a wipe. A dead healer is a wipe.

The trinityis the least of FFXIV's problems.
Duty Finder, and it's variable party sizes, are a much bigger problem, as it means there can't be any real variety between the classes.
Which is further complicated by Yoshida not wanting to have gear with non-attribute stats, because that would mean people would have to do specific content until they get it. (Ignoring Matria, Tomes, and other misc alternative methods of gaining interesting gear. Because Yoshida is an idiot.)
Which then means that we're stuck with the holy trinity in it's strictest form. The tanks all play almost identically, to the point that end-game just goes with whoever has the most DPS in the current balance.
DPS are all extremely identical. With the variation primarily being what sort of utility they bring. And how that utility plays into the meta of whatever the current end-game is decides which ones are the most useful.
Healers have the most variation. Though, even there it's weak, and getting weaker. Scholar is a DPS with a heal pet and various barriers.
WHM is the most pure healer
And AST is a healer with a randomized toolkit that can pick a Barrier or Regen stance when not in combat. Regen stance generally being best, because the barriers are a joke compared to SCH's.
This means that there really can't be any interesting mechanics that require specific party combinations, because you might not HAVE those on hand because Party Finder.
Matchmaking has been cancer since it was introduced. It is absolute shit, and more and more games are using it, because the people who play the games are brain-dead idiots.

I tell people all the time, practical application is different from the basics. Get your dummy DPS up to what you want, then ditch the dummy and do actual content until you get close to what you do on the dummy, then go back to the dummy and get your base even higher, and repeat until your practical skill is top tier. There is a limit to how much you can do obviously, particularly on certain classes if you have high ping, but ping doesn't not cause as much of a dip as one might think, the people that blame it for everything are just not willing to get better. Instead of focusing on your entire rotation, get a stopwatch and focus on segments of your rotation until the time matches with the optimal shown in best rotations online. Once you can match the best rotation second for second, that's when you actually start playing your character for real; the best rotation is NOT actually the real best rotation, the best rotation is one you make for yourself; in 2.0 I managed to hold a consistent top 10 overall on DPS for all BLMs (obviously the ones parsing only, but most of the top BLMs are in parties that will parse anyway) from 2.0 to 2.2 when I quit due to static drama, and I did that by modifying the accepted best rotation by weaving oGCDs in at certain points where there were a few fractions of a second of no action occurring in the "standard" rotation. By weaving scathe (not oGCD but you can use it like one in one particular situation), convert and a few other skills in a certain manner, I gained an additional 20-30 DPS over the optimal standard.
Playing the game doesn't mean copying shit, it means taking what other people suggest and making it better on your own.

Oh man I remember I had group like this back in vanilla. I was on smn in full darklight with ilv80 relic, the other dps was a drg with a few pieces of ilv90 raid gear, and I can't remember what the tank and healer were. We absolutely destroyed Amdapor Keep. I think we finished in less than 16 minutes. We beat fucking demon wall without the bees spawning or using the limit break.
I main WHM but its parties like that that make me want to main a dps. I'd get another dps thats amazing and we just nod at each other with a mutual respect while the tank and healer sit there wondering why the run is going so fast.

I just got out of 2 Nidhoggs in a row, df trial roullete. First run, noone even broke 1k. 2nd run, BLM did 1600+ dps regularly, but the 3 smns we had? Between 500 and 929, at best. The 500 one died to half the mechanics, too. I was pulling just barely slightly less dps than she was, as an Offtank PLD. Spending half the run using Clemency because healers couldn't keep up with the stupid. And Riot Blade to restore MP. If I'm matching SMN dps as a PLD using heals and mp restore skills, somethin's wrong with them. We had to abandon because the last 2 tries we were killing the adds slower and slower, 1 add survived, then the last try 2 survived.

After running Weeping City so many fucking times I can easily say that 60% of the wipes are due to the healers. Now, I don't play healer because I like my action melee dps much more so I might be missing something but when you got meteors or accel bomb or need to do any mechanic, you tend to fail at that a lot. You prioritize topping off the tank whose at 90% hp already to get one-shotted or fuck everyone over by not moving the meteor away. Anything that requires more than just healing I can't rely on you to do. That's why I have to take a orb on the left because both healers can't go left and right at the same time and I don't trust the other parties healer to manage it. Now, I'm okay with you taking your time healing a dps because they were dumb. It's part of our job to not take any damage besides the unavoidable and if we get hit because of an animation lock then that's just bad luck. Just recognize that most wipes aren't because of the dps. It's because of you not doing mechanics, then us cavemen dps mucking around and failing a dps check, then it's usually because of tanks fighting for agro or unready pulls, then just a plain bad tank
