As someone who played incredible amounts of D2 as well, I highly recommend Grim Dawn.
I found PoE too bland and forgettable, though it has it's merits. Torchlight 2 is like the nickelodeon version of D3 and the balance between classes is horrible to absolutely non-existant - some of them are extremely OP, while others are downright useless.

Torchlight 2 would be perfect if the classes/skills weren't garbage. Everything else is on point. Art style is debatable but it's not called Diablo so it's allowed to be cartoony while Diablo 3 is a travesty.
