I only ever owned THPS 1 on the N64, and then THUG2 for the PS2.
I was a big fan, I remember in that Australia map there was that corner of apartment balconies or something, and I'd just grind, wall plant, grind, wall plant for hours.

Comfy levels and way better board selection, though.
Played THUG constantly as a kid, but only beat it just last year, still holds up as a great game. Might get around to beating THUG 2 soon. Last I played it, it was a lot of fun but some of the story was a bit obnoxious, and I say that as someone who loves Jackass. Wasteland is alright, good controls, really annoying story though. I actually never played the Pro Skater games themselves, but Pro Skater HD is on sale on PSN this week for 6 bucks and I picked it up. Been enjoying it a lot, and it's more convenient than setting up my PS2 whenever I'm in the mood for these games. Would picking up all the old THPS games be worth it as well?
It's a shame that 5 is so absolutely awful. A decent company really needs to pick up the rights to the series. I would kill for a THUG 3.

It's great control wise, but the story and setting are weak. The way skate culture is depicted in THUG 1 and 2 can be kind of silly at times, but it's still endearing. However in THAW the characters are pretty unlikable and obnoxious, and the whole skate park storyline is uninteresting. As for the setting, I actually read an old pre release article that talks about how the game was supposed to set in the 1980s, which I think they eventually dropped so they could include modern elements and modern pro skaters. The end result is weird, because the characters talk about skate culture as if is new territory and stuff, but then other things contradict it. The classic mode is fucking great though.
Were any of the post THAW games playing? Proving Ground or Project 8?
