Probably Hunters, despite my low experience with the Remake. They deal enough damage to be a considerable threat, have a diverse moveset but die quickly - quite possibly they're the best enemies in the series.

The thing is the Spencer Mansion is so iconic and memorable of a location, and the pacing of RE1 so perfect, of course they would try to replicate it.
Problem is people like the modern directed RE games now too, so they try to reconcile the big, unknown locations with the modern RE game design and you end up with Rev1 or the RE4 castle segments

PS1 was a shiity console with a shitty controler (yes, my PS1 was the non-Dualshock model), 3d graphics were a piece of shit and Resident Evil 1 was a core to play.
