Any tips on how to make money in this game?
>>
>>343760012
sell shit you don't need
wander around to find quests
complete said quests
sell random shit you don't need

if you sell the shit you can steal all the way from the starting boat to balmora, you should have at least around 500 shekels by then
>>
>>343760012
Steal shit and fence it.
>>
>>343760012
Wait, there's people who don't steal everything in sight and sell to the pawnbrokers on their first playthrough?
>>
>>343760119
I remember played this game constantly on Xbox and ransacking that starting boat and building like a dark-skinned fellow. My brother and I must've put hundreds of hours into it, and yet we never really made it that far into any quests.
>>
In the very beginning of the game you can take everything from the shelves, open your item inventory and drop anything before that guard can catch you, then you can pick them up after that and sell it all.

Soul gems with a soul inside can sell for a lot of money; especially if it has a Daedra inside it.

You could try making alchemy potions too. Go to Caldera's mages guild and you'll find a master alchemy set behind a breton that you can take easily since it's at the top of some stairs

in the same Town, there's a manor home to a bunch of orcs. on the top floor is a creeper who has 5k gold who can buy most anything.

Glass, ebony and daedric equipment can sell for lots of money but you probably won't find any early on unless you know where to look.

Get the Mark, Recall, and interventions spells if you're good with magic. Mark and Recall can help speed up getting to a specific merchant or place much faster.
>>
>>343760012
There are three diamonds and other gems in Balmora alone, steal those and sell them. There is also a smuggler's den near the starting town with skooma and moon sugar inside, take it and sell it to the Khajiit merchant in Balmora.
>>
>>343760012
You need to go full thief mode.
Steal everything you can and then sell it except pillows, they have some sort of glitch wich fucks up everything.
Still, below some pillows there is stuff to take, so dont mind taking them, but dont sell them.

Look every crate, every barrel, every place you visit and empty them.

you can break the game in the first hour of gameplay, OP. When i say break the game, i mean it... literaly. You can become so powerfull that game will crash.

Is it the first time you are playig it?

One thing I hate about morrowind is the way the stolen property system works. If you steal anything then that item type is marked as stolen for the rest of the entire game.
This means that you can never sell that type of item to the shopkeeper again if you stole it from them, even if it is a different item. It also means that if you are arrested you get it confiscated.

Why have there been no good mods to fix this issue? Surely the Morrowind Code Patch could do something.

Yes, but it is an issue inherent to the game. The guards stealing everything from you regardless of if it is stolen or not if you stole one of that type once is bad too.

I downloaded a mod so I could detect ownership on items to try and prevent accidental theft.
>>
>>343762302
If you have any amount of slow fall spell affecting you then you are immune to fall damage.

Yes, even with 1 point.
>>
>>343762302
Slowfall works for that too.

Jumping around the island is amazingly fun in Morrowind. It's a shame they removed that type of thing in Oblivion and even moreso in Skyrim.

Being a magician in morrowind felt great, really one of it's strongest points. Really felt like a proper magician, working your way through situations.

Dunno why they decided to remove custom spells.
>>
>>343762573
levitation and others were removed because cities were made into separate cells and, as well as teleportation spells, to not mess with now heavily scripted quests.

I know. The Worldspace takes advantage of it in skyrim too, with mountains that are blank on top since you're not supposed to get up there.

Also, create permanent summon spell for Dremoras, kill them, and sell their deadric weapons.

OP. another exploit you can use is the drain ability.

If you are level 1 in something, the training is cheap, but when you increase the level, it becomes more expensive, and also has a level limit, but if you use a drain potion, you can keep yourself at level 1, and keep leveling for coins up to the level you want.

If you are powerfull enough, you can try to kill dagoth ur and the heart without anything, just you and your powers.
I tried, but i wasnt powerfull enough, both me and dagoth ur ended up in an endless fight walking on the lava pit, both taking only a third of the health with each magic attack, but restoring it full before the next strike, same with the heart.
and it was endless because i installed the patch to restore magica without sleep.
If not, i would have to leave just to recharge that.

The dark brotherhood quests in Oblivion are really good, and the thieves guild quests are nice too.

Many of the others, not so much. The Main quest especially is terrible.

It did do a few things better. Manual blocking is nice. I know there is a mod for it in Morrowind but it tends to bug my block skill.

Balmora potion method. Requires alchemy but it's good shit. If you set alchemy as a major skill, even if you don't care about it, you'll level up a lot in the process as alchemy will reach 100 quickly.

they were too young to have started with morrowind back when they were impressionable but still feel the need to be annoying nostalgiafags about it.

skyrim and oblivion threads are always 80% shitting on morrowind and morrowind fans instead of actually talking about their games(unless it's skyrim /pol/posting) because they only attempt to mimmick what morrowind threads are like and fail every time. Typical sour grapes behavior.
>>
>>343765437
The worst problem people have with morrowind is being shit at making a good custom class and use what it goes with that class, and the roll dice for the combat, this can be fixed with a simple mod, but for oblivion, you need to mod it very hard to make it the game it should be, without counting the aesthetics, that will add another pack of mods.
Cant say if there is a packed overhaul like morrowind has, they let you select between lots of mods, for the trees and shit.
>>
>>343764743
Please elaborate.
>>
>>343760012
Alchemy. Go to the Imperial Shrine on sadrith Mora. Buy bloat, ash yams and netch leather.

Create a fortify int potion. Drink it. Exit your invoice for the potion to take effect. Then immediately do the same thing to make a more powerful, longer lasting potion that stacks.

Keep doing this for 10 minutes. After that time you'll be making potions worth several thousand gold and last for days. You essentially become a god at level 1.
>>
>>343764978
Grab Morrowind first. Lot more freedom in roleplaying and magic in general. Do make sure to make the weapon you want to use a major skill though, lest you want to miss most of your hits.
>>
>>343762302

Morrowind Code Patch
Morrowind Patch Project

I recommend a vanilla run before doing extensive modding. The above two mods provide fixes only. Morrowind Code Patch fixes bugs in the engine and Morrowind Patch Project fixes quests (e.g. some quests can become broken and prevent you from completing them) and other oversights.

I recommend MGE for distant land viewing and a slight graphic touchup, and fair magicka regen if you dont want to constantly chug mana potions for the smallest things or wait a bunch.

Won't make much of a difference in combat, but the regen is good for the occasional utility spell while wandering.

Morrowind, but don't go in expecting much from the combat. It's a primitive dice roll system translated to a video game from a first person perspective.

Remember guys, walking simulators are BAD. Morrowind is GOOD, even though you spend the vast majority of time in the game slowly walking around. Oblivion ruined it by making you able to run and fast travel. Ugh, how casual. I want to slowly plod through brown featureless envirnonments for hours and hours because I'm so hardcore. But walking simulators SUCK!

Choose

Morrowind
>Alien fantasy setting with awesome lore and intriguing setting

Or

Oblivion
>Generic fantasy with straight forward fetch quests and cozy setting

The combat isn't good in either of them.

MAD JUMPS SON!

Flying around the island one jump at a time is best transport.
You move far faster in Morrowind than the other current TES games. And that's without even getting into the teleport spells and networks.
>>
>>343767398
No, but you should find a trainer to raise those skills reguardless, you just won't level up from training them.

I suggest heavy armor if its your first time.

>>343767534
Light Armor is probably better if he has tribunal.
One nice thing Oblivion did was the mastery system for the non-magic skills, allowing you to get cool benefits at certain increments. Some were annoying since they just were drawbacks in disguise but others like the Armor skills were nicely done.

Its a shame it grew into the disgusting Perk system though of Skyrim. SPERG is pretty fun for a similar thing in Skyrim, if a bit unbalanced.

Eh, if he's new he's not going to know where all the good light armors are off the bat,

>>343767770
Shame what they did to jump and levitate.

In morrowind the levels were actually designed for you to be able to have ways to boost your jumping or plain fly, even the first dungeon had bonus loot if you had levitate.

I was working on making levitate work in the skyrim engine for Skywind, but I could never get a channeled levitate to not feel like shit to play with, and the buff version just felt like cheating.

>he's not going to know where all the good light armors are off the bat

>>
>>343767703
I actually liked the little skill perks in Oblivion as well. Master Acrobats could even jump on water at the right time and skip across entire lakes. And one of the high level Hand to Hand power attacks gave you a chance to paralyze your opponent for a bit.
>>
>>343768080
Eh, suppose thats true.
>>
>>343767662
The Scaling is endlessly annoying and I don't really care for the setting.
You really need OOO for it to be functional as a game, otherwise caves and things are boring and pointless to explore and the entire world is boring and hollow.

Even then, the combat is mediocre. Say what you will about dice rolls, once you get rolling with Morrowind your melee strikes will destroy enemies. The Oblivion Combat felt too spongey.
I use Morrowind Combat Enhanced these days too, so combat in my Morrowind involves a lot of moving about to land the combo attacks.

>Unarmored
broken. You need Morrowind code patch to fix it. 65 armor at 100 skill. Weights nothing, but limits amount of pieces to enchant.
>Light
only good light armor is Glass Armor, which is also endgame armor. It costs little fortune and takes LONG to complete, unless you play with walkthrough
>Medium
endgame armor, Indoril is widely avaliable, but not very viable, because it makes Ordinators attack you on sight. On the other hand, Orcish is good, plenty and everywhere.
>Heavy
Even entry-level, Steel, is good enough for most of game. Dwemer and Templar are not much improvement. Ebony is king of protection, but is about as rare as Glass and heavy as fuck.
>>
>>343768257

>>
>>343764351
>>343764582
I loved how many spells you had to do the same shit.

Damage strength, burden, levitate, paralyze, damage speed will all immobilize enemies.
>>
>>343768530
Really makes you wonder what they were thinking when they designed armors. Not to mention Chitin, the second best armor can be bought in most shops for very cheap, making every other type of light armor useless.
>>
I vaguely remember havigng done a Unarmed and Unarmored Run in Morrowind and it was rad as fuck.
>Punch your shit with Mudcrabs
>Build up Strength and soon Punch everything down with ease
I think I would consider doing a new run with FemImperial and Heavy Armor or just walk around nude and punch shit.
>>
>>343769240
I meant to write he second best* light armor
>>
>>343768778
Damage Strength also weakens their attacks though, paralyze makes all attacks hit instantly. Damage strength only immobilizes enemies that are carrying things and if you lay it on heavily. Damage speed slows down no matter what amount you put on.

The only really superfluous one is Burden, since Damage strength works so much better. I modded Burden to be cheap and fuck to make up for it though so that way it wasn't too hard to lay on a high spell that lasted a long time.
>>
>>343769240
wait why is Chitin decent? Leather or DB Armor outscales it easily.
>>
>>343769243
Unless you use the Morrowind Code Patch, strength doesn't affect unarmed damage.

Unarmed was fun as fuck though once you got going, since you could knock enemies down and out pretty fast.
>>
>>343769384
Chitin is defense 15, far above leather. DB beats it by quite a bit but that is from an expansion, not the base game.
In the base game it jumps from 15 for chitin to 50 for glass with nothing in between. From Glass you go up to the 80 point artifact light armors, which are great.
>>
>>343769412
Yeah, there was my mistake in my train of thought since I remember that they were easy to punch down but really took long to get to 0. There isn't any official fix to the Damage Output of Unarmed, right?
>>
>>343768530
There's only enough pieces to collect one set of Deadric armor. Even artifact armors are easier to find

>>
>>343769550
There's no official fix. Using Morrowind Code patch is a good idea, but it does make werewolves spinning death tops as a side effect due to all the strength.

There are tons of mods that add damage to unarmed attacks normally or with gauntlets. I personally once again skip those and just go with the Combat Enhanced, as the combos allow you to deal damage when you need it while the normal punches are still just fatigue when you want that instead.

For you to be 6 hours into the game and to be level one you need to either be idle or to not jump/run/fight/craft/converse or get hit.Since pretty much anything you do in this game is tied to a skill that will push you up to level up.

Nice b8 thread tho.

Code patch or just install MGO 3.0 which has all necessary patches and fixes included.
>>
>>343770034
Code patches will be in the engine itself.
Normal maps are supported.
Multiplayer is possible without a lot of crazy fuckery.
Will be able to be 64 bit engine.
Future proof because it can just be changed later as it's open source.
Runs on all operating systems.
Supports existing mods.

And you can build your own game with it.

>Steal a diamond from someone
>Grind it into dust for alchemy
>Find some other diamonds later
>Sell it to that store keeper
>Store keeper claims it is his same diamonds and calls the guard

That's the problem.
The Game pins stolen to all of that type in the entire game, without the code patch it is never removed even if you get stuff confiscated.

the things oblivion did 'better' were almost entirely due to greater technology available and even then, oblivion was still a shoddy, lazy piece of shit that modders do better to this day.

how fucking shitty must you be to remove five weapon types because you couldn't be arsed to make different animations?

I miss spears and crossbows. People lie about no one using them but they were great. Crossbows were fun to use and due to their mechanics fire instantly with no drawback. Spears are fun to use due to keeping enemies away, and they train endurance which is stellar.

i miss thrown weapons because they provided near endless possibilities for enchantments and lightweight ranged attacks.

the loss of weapon variety really made the following games feel less immersive and more gamey since there's a natural evolution to weapons depending on the needs of people, but in oblivion and skyrim everyone wields gigantic hammers and wide, chunky swords.

it's fucking dumb, the average peasant shouldn't be able to afford a sword, they would take a knife and put it on a long stick.

when you first start and go into that office after you get off the boat, steal a bunch of the shit in that building. starting with the bookshelf on the right after you walk in, there's a big ass plate that's worth a lot of money, all you have to do is drop it right after you pick it up. otherwise, the guard will confiscate it.

after you pick all your skills, close the door behind you when you go into the room with the dining table. you can steal EVERYTHING in that room

I think the only weird one was Block's recoil thing at Expert and above. Everything else felt like an actual nice bonus. Especially with how your power attacks got extra attributes.
>>
>>343777213
The Magic skills stick out the most in my mind, where spells have tiers and you can't even try to cast magic that is above your tier.

Novice acrobatics prevents you from jump attacking too. Novice in armors makes them degrade faster too. This way the first benefits of them, apprentice don't really add benefits so much as remove a nerf.
>>
>>343777995
But that all makes sense.
And it's not like you level up your light armor and suddenly get a nerf to light armor.

No, what they did was take away how things work normally and then give them back later.

The Magic ones are especially bad. In Morrowind you can try to cast any spell, some just have limited chance of succeeding.
>>
>>343778458
They didn't take them away though.
You start out incompetent at using armor or jumping, and then have to earn the right to not be incompetent.

>They didn't take them away though.

Yes they did because it didn't work that way in a previous version. Instead of thinking of something new to do with the skill, they make it worse and then let you earn back things you could already do before.
