I know what you mean, and I agree that it's a huge problem with games that try to take on a retro aesthetic. But honestly I think this game is very genuine and the people who worked on it has a lot of passion for what they were doing. Other than a few technical limitations it would have fit right into the time of older NES gaming and I don't think it's fair to rule it out just because it was made in the 21st century.

Not that guy but I owned both and still thought it was retarded. You had to beat prime AND own fusion to get the suit. You also had to BEAT fusion just to unlock the NES Metroid (on prime). They were unlockables locked behind paid bullshit plain and simple.
In the Metroid Trilogy they got rid of the Fusion requirement and it makes perfect sense that way. You beat the game, you get to replay a harder difficulty in the fusion suit. Many games have this.
