How come you Sonicfags never talk about the Sonic GameGear games? I've been playing through all of them for the first time, and many of them are surprisingly fun. In fact, Sonic 1 and Sonic Triple Trouble are good enough that I would recommend them to anyone who is a fan of the series, and wants to try something new from the classic era that's not the genesis games. Shame about the small screen of the GG though.

I never really found the Game Gear titles that interesting. I haven't played them in a long time too. The only ones I would play are Sonic Chaos and Sonic Triple Trouble. The others are inferior versions of Mega Drive games and mediocre spinoffs.

I think Sonic 3 & Knuckles is extremely overrated, it's ok but it's not THE BEST FUCKING THING IN THE GODDAMN UNIVERSE

I found Sonic and the Secret Rings pretty memorable and liked the game in a whole but it had shitty motion control mechanics that could have been better, it felt more like a gamecube game than a Wii game.
Sonic Unleashed doesn't deserve all the hate it gets, the werehog stuff was fine but there was too much of it overshadowing the day stages, overall I think it was pretty decent and all the medals were nice to collect.
I never liked rush or battle.
Mean Bean Machine is great.
Sonic the fighters was fantastic.
Shadow the Hedgehog is also a very memorable game to me, I enjoyed the story and the gameplay.
Sonic 06 is alright if you completely ignore the story/cutscenes but the game is buggy as fuck.
I wish there was more platforming involved with sonic now, like the game gear games.
Oh and Sonic CD US track is better than the EU/JP track.

Sonic 2 for the Master System/Game Gear was weird, and in a way that I can't really pinpoint. I also like how each stage intro card uses sprites from the Genesis version of Sonic 2, and show Tails with Sonic even though he isn't playable.
Sonic Chaos was ok, Sonic's sprite was hideous though. Gigapolis Zone had some pretty cool looking graphics. Too bad the game is so easy to beat.
Sonic Triple Trouble was good, but a bit bloated with having Knack the Weasel too. He might as well never appeared, since you only fight him in special stages.

Sonic 1 and 2 are much better on Master System compared to the Game Gear's screen crunch rendering them almost unplayable due to limited visibility. But I agree, some of the 8-bit Sonic games do deserve more attention than they're usually given.

This was a good thing. The bosses were already simple enough that you should be able to learn the pattern just fine. The games where he can always snag one ring are pretty bullshit.

Trial and error is the foundation of the 8 and 16-bit eras. And that's not even completely what it is. Most bosses you can stand back from and observe before leaping in to attack. Watching and learning before diving in is not trial and error.
I've only ever played the first Sonic Mastersystem game, it has my favorite boss theme.

Actually, one of the things I like about Green Hills Zone is that you can easily farm lives in one of the acts. I think you can get 4 lives, then just die and get another 3 pretty quickly.
Which was good because Sonic 2 for the Gamegear is one of the hardest Sonic games out there. That final boss almost got me game over. At least there are no bottomless pit in any levels of the game.

First time I beat this game as a child after numerous failed attempts I got the bad ending and it legit shocked me to see that Tails was killed off. I know it's an alternate ending and it's just an implication, but I wasn't expecting that. At all.
