I personally got a lot of enjoyment out of it despite the late game stuff being limited, but I am also a huge metal gear fan. If you have not played the other games, I would skip it and get something else. If you have played the other games, pick it up.

The game is worth, you won't have your typical Metal Gear game with a very scripted story and memorabl scenes. Instead you'll have an openworld sanbox. If you've played Mercenaries for PS2, that's what this game is like.
It can get somewhat repetitive but it's worth for half the price. You also get MGO which is also a plus.
I've been told MGSV: Ground Zeroes is better but is way shorter, its also cheaper (5$ If I'm not mistaken).

Play a while vanilla first, just focus on getting the handle for the games mechanics and basically git gud.
Once you do that, install the mod.
The mod adds a lot of shit, but the important things it adds helicopters and random patrols between posts and bases, so there's always the risk of getting detected, but at the beginning you want to have some breathing room in case you fuck up.
Of course, you can go in full rambo, and unlike MGS3, you can play it as a shooter, but stealth is much more rewarding and satisfying.
Also, pay attention to the beginning to grab absolutely everything you find regarding plants and material boxes, you'll need those to start developing weapons, outfits and to upgrade the base.
Regarding optimization, it's really well optimized, but everything on max settings might avoid you from 60 FPS if your PC isn't the best, specifically the lightning and shadows.
Unless you have a really powerful PC, just turn everything to max besides these two, and let shadows and lightning on high.

No, the way to set up heli songs is that you have to have those songs on the playlist, (I think you put them in the game by putting mp3 files in some folder) and then you assign one of those songs to the heli, be it one of your songs, or one of the tapes you find in the game.

Well, it uses Denuvo, but you can pirate Ground Zeroes, if you find a torrent that is, since for some reason, it's really hard to find one.
MGSV is one of the Denuvo games that got cracked, but apparently it had some bugs, like crashing the game if you didn't open a door while aiming your weapon and such, and you can't install updates, so you'll have to deal with the release bugs and such.
Also, the FOB thing, the thing about invading other people's bases and such, you won't be able to play it, and if you want to keep developing shit you need that to get more soldiers and upgrade your unit's levels.
Then again, that's just for the sake of grinding and getting new weapons, but if that's your thing, you won't be able to do it.

Do pirate GZ though since it's a demo the prologue of the game, though the gameplay feels less polished than in TPP and there's a lot of missing things, plus there's less than 10 weapons in the game, and there's no base building or anything, it's just some missions happening on the same map to show different situations.
Feels like a ''proof of concept'' of TPP.
Yeah, game kinda falls apart after chapter 1 ends and all cut content/backstage problems really shine through.
But if you like sneaking, replaying missions and like micro managing shit(i do) you're gonna love it.
