It is easy to learn ("bust a cap in a nigga to get cash money"), but hard to master (improving the timings is an endless task) and has many implications that flow naturally instead of hardcoding "do X for money boost".

Hearthstone is popular as a video game. not as a card game. Magic and even yugioh, hell even pokemon tcg are still huge.

2. Competitive mode is a disaster, throws 3 different kind of game modes in to 1 ranked system, makes the whole process unbalanced and luck based as fuck, sudden death coin flip on capture the first point + payload maps = joke, who attacks wins.
3. Dynamic Queue, it worked so well for League right? throws premades and solo queue players in to the same pool.

I could go into the basics of how the story was completely ruined by Chris Metzen jerking off to his own fanfiction and how they turned a relatively tame science fiction space game into the deranged lovechild of dragonball Z and Naruto (not even the good parts either, basically the power levels and prophesies and chosen ones BS that you see them rehash to death). But the gameplay itself has its own set of problems.
