So about to play this for the first time, never played a mass efect game before.
Is this one of those games I have to go full good or evil to get or its pointless.

I played through ME1 last year and then tried ME2 and got bored.
It's the best out of the trilogy but you should play the first one just be familiar with the world.

There is no good or evil play style in mass effect. It's more along the lines of good cop, bad cop.
But yes, you have to go either full Paragon (good cop) or Renegade (bad cop) to get the benefits of those sides.
Although in the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter if you max them. You can easily play the game with a mix of Para or Ren.

Yes. There comes a time where you have to side with one or the other of your squadmates. Choosing one over the other will make the other distrustful of you and make them more likely to die on the final mission. But having maxed out Paragon/ Renegade will let you convince them both to make up allowing you to save both.

There's no "good" or "evil". It's more like "nice" and "aggressive". And, yes, you need to commit to one or the other because you get points each time you choose one, and you can't make the harder choices unless you have enough points.
Play Mass Effect 1 first or it will be fucking unplayable (not that it isn't that already) if you decide to go back.

Actually, it's not a matter of points but of what % of renegade/paragon bar compared to the paragon/renegade bar. The later this conversations comes up, the more renegade/paragon points you will to make the difference. Still, with proper management, I managed to reach full paragade by the end of the game.

Dead Space, Gears of War, Max Payne, Vanquish, Red Faction, Uncharted, Grand Theft Auto, Phantom Pain, Resident Evil (and the numerous spin-offs), Saints Row, Just Cause, Hitman, Spec Ops, Alan Wake, Mafia, Alpha Protocol, Kotor and Lost Planet.

You have normal choices , evil choices and good choices. But good/evil choices require not to have good/evil points -from previous choices- but good/evil ratio in one direction or the other.
So, 2 good and 1 evil gets more good choices than 5 good and 4 evil.
