I've pirated a lot of games without buying them later, the only game I recently bought was Witcher 3 and that only because I wanted to play the expansions and free dlc but somehow no version worked. It's technically impossible for Denuvo not to hurt performance due to its design. The only question is how much - a smaller performance hit means weaker security. The people who made Lords of the Fallen said that it takes up to 5% on their game.
