Will this game be good?
I just started Persona 4 Golden a couple days ago because I thought I'd check out how these games play, but it seems really boring to me.
There's a lot to do simultaneously but none of it really seems to matter and the game arbitrarily decides when I can or can't do certain things. And the battle system gets old really fast.

I'm at the end of Kanji's dungeon now. When I finished Yukiko's dungeon I had planned to do the daycare job next sunday but she returned to school and somehow that meant the whole afternoon was over. It's not like any of these social links are enjoyable to watch either so I don't really care.

For me, it's only bearable in EP where it doesn't take 500 years for animations to complete. Even better in EPP where you can skip them entirely and loads are fast.

I imported it primarily to improve my Japanese reading skills and I saw the series has a huge fanbase. It's very well suited for that because there's not a lot voice acting, but there's just so much room for improvement

Maybe try Persona 1 and 2, they're nothing like 3 and 4, which basically just took the name of the series and the personas and nothing else. Yeah, you start off with high schoolers in Persona 1 an 2: IS at first (actually, the entire cast of the first game are high schoolers), but it's not a high school sim, you just happen to be high schoolers who get thrown into a world of madness and try to solve shit and not die. They're old school dungeon crawlers, and the dungeons aren't randomly generated either. They're more SMTish, really.

The music in the PSX version is much, MUCH better. It's so damn good. Unfortunately, unless you can read Nip, the PSP version is the only one for you because the localization of the PSX version is a prime example of localization gone wrong.

They pretended the game took place in America (which just happens to have malls with Japanese writing all over it and a shinto shrine), changed the names of all the character to be more American (Reiji -> Chris), changed most character's appearance slightly, like their hair color or length, and, in the case of Masao, changed him into a black guy.

There is a patch to restore the music, though I've heard it only restores about a third, music cuts off at points, and it's quieter than it should be. Still, may be better than nothing. Persona 2: IS at least has the option to select the original or remix tracks whenever you want, but the remixes aren't bad at all (same with Eternal Punishment's PSP version, but forget about that if you can't read Japanese.)

If Persona: Idol Edition is anything to go by then 5 will probably be pretty cool. TMS is very stylish with a good battle system and overall good mechanics that don't make anything feel cumbersome to do, story is whatever tier but that's all JRPGs for me except for rare stuff like Trails.
At this point, if Atlus removed the combat and all the other rpg concepts, Personafags would not care.
