At least in MOBAs *most* of the stuff doesn't literally 1 shot you or kill you in one combo. In Overwatch you literally get killed by random AoE that does about 120 damage.

I was rank 74 and got down to 61 because of random groups. But if I win, one fucktard on the enemy team normally leaves the game before my team wins and I get as good as no level up.

In Competitive you should should move up in rank by winning two consecutive matches with the rewards increasing the more consecutive matches you win.
There should be zero penalty for losing.
Everything should reset at end of the season.
