I really really loved gta 4. It's the closest thing to a 'realistic' gta game we've gotten. It still manages to have whacky characters and scenarios but playing as this war criminal slav coming to new york the story and things you do actually make sense, not to mention how realistic the world and physics were. Bullshit. 3770k 4.2Ghz and GTX 970 and I get anywhere from 80-200 fps at any given moment. If you aren't getting at least that much with those faster components, you're probably being just as retarded as everyone else who ever complained about this games port, and have both view distances cranked to 100. The game is set to like 21 and 15 on consoles, and by cranking it to 100 you completely overload the API with draw calls that NO cpu can handle because DX9 is shit.
In other words: Rockstar was too far ahead of the times when they made that game, and the only available APIs in 2007 when this game was developed were really either DX9 or DX10, which did fuck all to improve performance and was actually worse. If this game had DX11 or hell proper DX12 support, no one running components from 2008 and newer would ever complain about this games performance.

IV was a great game but it went for a rather different tone than some people want, so it was understandably hit or miss for those people.
V is also a great game but it's much more true to what is expected of GTA and delivers on variety of content and functions that the series built up in the 6th gen era games, while also delivering on the detail in world design that IV had.Purely from a single player view, V is IMO one of the best games ever, and the best GTA closely followed by San Andreas. The only notable issues V has are online-based, such as a shit load of menus and systems between playing stuff and microtransaction-based money bullshit which thankfully does not impact the single player at all.
That fucking mission with the mcgreary brothers where you have to drive to the shoot out location and they fucking suck and die every time and every time you have to restart and listen to the exact same banter as you drive to the shootout location.
That's the point where I said fuck this game and gave up on it.
