It doesn't take that much skill unless you're seriously without a single trace of artistic skill or original thought in you. Some stuff would be done in mspaint and skill get the job done along with getting the point across. Those artist still exist to an extent too anyway, but they just joined the crowd that just edit existing images now. So I wouldn't say there is exactly a lack of artist or anything. People just grew fucking lazy now.
