I remember Alan Wake doing this and it being especially terrible because the hard mode made the game actually fun. Significantly more fun. Normal mode was just point and shoot repetitive shit but then hard mode made it more of a survival horror where fighting was actually difficult and you'd end up without the resources to do so and ave to try and just run away

I mean it makes sense that someone beats a game on normal to unlock hard if they're looking for a challange. But what's the point of unlocking easy AFTER beating it on hard, wouldn't that make the game pretty boring in comparison?
