Fact: STALKER, despite being jenked up, corrupted, glitched, and developed entirely by men killed by Russian mercenaries, is the greatest game ever.

Do you know any similar games?

Metro 2033 is the closest thing there is, but it's not the same. It's very linear and "cinematic".

I'd recommend playing System Shock 2 and original PC Far Cry. Back when SoC came out, I felt like STALKER was like a fancy mixture of those two, with a hint of Fallout.
>>
>>343403741
Yes, actually.
Call of Pripyat.
>>
>>343403741

GUNSLINGER NEVER EVER
>>
>>343404012
Call of Juarez?
>>
>>343403741
VtMB except it was developed by murrifats and needed a kraut chemist to fix shit up.
>>
>>343403741
You can try Boiling Point series, though it isn't very fun in my opinion. It's basically more ambitious Far Cry.
I guess Cryostasis kinda fits too.
Both games are Ukrainian so maybe that's why I think they're similar.

VtM:B
System Shock 2 was pretty low-budged as well

The shittiest TOOL tier song opening ever. God, I hate that music almost as much as 90s alt rock.
>>
>>343404358

i dont know what music playing. i dont have the PC's headset on cuz im playing Bloodborne on the other monitor
>>
>>343404538
The music is terrible but those are some legit animations. The only bit that bothers me is that anyone who's modding stalker is going to mod in lots of weapons so I can see this mod causing issues or only modding a few.

Actually, the animation for taking the pills is taken from another mod, I think. The injection is pretty fucking dope, though.

I've actually been putting off replaying the game for the umpteenth time in hopes that it really feels like a new experience the longer I wait for new mods to come out.
>>
>>343404786
Have you tried Misery? Despite the shit it gets on /v/ I found it fucking amazing and made a game I'd played for years actually feel like a new experience.

There's also Call of Chernobyl, which is what I've been playing a lot lately.
>>
>>343405056
I tried Misery on release but I wasn't TOO keen. I didn't hate it but it was more or less like they made everything a giant pain in the ass. I went to the zombie area first thing and those fuckers were WAY too hardy. How many headshots did they need? Way too many.

Never heard of Call of Chernobyl, though.
>>
>>343403741
Fallout New vegas
>>
>>343405180
Dude you've been missing out. I get that Misery isn't for everyone, but C.o.C is too good to miss out on for a stalker veteran.

It's basically a stand alone mod with all areas from the three games, including underground complexes and everything all available in the same game. There's also mods for the mod, mostly weapon packs and such. I play with Arsenal Overhaul, adds over 100 weapons (fully compatible with the CoP weapon mod system. There's no story, and you can choose to start as literally any of the factions of the game. It's basically a huge freeroam mod with the best of all three games combined (except the story).

>>343403741
Far Cry 2 with Dylan's Mod and the music turned off always gives me a similar vibe
>>
>>343405558
What, WHAT!? What do you mean "including underground complexes"?
>>
>>343405813
Could you give me a brief description of Dylan's mod?
>>
>>343405852
I mean like including the Brain Schorcher, all the X-labs, Agropom undergound and so on, from all the games.
>>
>>343405897
It makes the game not shit.
>>
>SoC vanilla
>Clear Sky vanilla
>CoP Complete
Goddammit, why I do that....why I use mod on my first play.....
>>
>>343405978
Oh, okay. That sounds pretty cool. I'll have to check it out.

Also, OP, you should check out Escape from Tarkov. It's the zone without mutants or anomolies, which is unfortunate, but it's pretty much mercs vs loners.

the most essential thing it does is that it makes the bullet sponge enemies now die from 1 to 2 shots.
I think it also slightly increases the durability of weapons (though I sort of wish it didn't do this since having your gun jam on your in the middle of combat keeps things interesting)
It also increases the time before an outpost respawns and how likely someone from an outpost is to chase you in a vehicle if you don't stop to kill them all I think.

iirc the mod has a list of everything it does

>>343406113
it's playable without the mod, and it's still good, just not as great as it is with the mod.
>>
>>343406190
>complete
Why
>>
>>343406204
You absolutely should. There's also some neat features like if you befriend a neutral stalker, he'll be able to follow you on adventures in the zone, acting like a companion.

Or playing as a monolith and killing all the breekis invading the sacred Sarcophagus.
>>
>CS €4 in steam sale
And still I have a hard time bringing myself to actually buy it.
>>
>>343406346
Shit, I wanna be Monolith now.
>>
>>343406268
Ok, thanks, anon! Been putting off trying FC2, but this makes me way more interested in the game.

>developed entirely by men killed by Russian mercenaries

wait what, you are just joking right?
>>
>>343406296
I will never return to vanilla...im deeply sorry anon
>>
>>343403741

I agree. The worst thing that ever happened to me was playing STALKER when it came out. Never again I felt such joy in playing a video game. Nothing interests me now.

Games with similar outcomes: Resident Evil 4, Half-Life 2, GTA Vice City and Fallout New Vegas.
>>
>>343406571
Honestly you may as well play FO3 or some other casual shit, what you're playing is not in any way, shape or form the real Stalker experience.

I hope you at least play on Master and without crosshairs.
>>
>developed entirely by men killed by Russian mercenaries
Come again?
>>
>>343406190
>vanilla CS
You are a stronger man than I. I can't stomach it. I got to the rookie area from SoC and gave up when I figured out how shit the factions are and how it damaged my immersion.

>>343406571
But it looks like shit, runs like shit... please, do anything else. Anything. Except misery. The title is a hint.

I'm not sure about that series of cards/integrated graphics, but the Stalker games are uncannily toaster friendly. Might need some .ini tweaking, though.

I definitely tried that game but I wasn't into the urban environment. I wanted something more rural.

We're on the same level, though.

There's nothing quite like it.
>>
the STALKER games really interest me, but I know nothing about them. What are they about? What is the gameplay like? Which game is the best one in the series? I need answers
>>
>>343411182
It's a modern introduction to Eastern Europe. 50 Years ago I would have given you a Russian piece of literature.
>>
>>343411182
They're linear FPS games set in a relatively open world of alternate reality Chernobyl Exclusion Zone where shit went down even more and spooky mutants and artifacts started appearing. Artifacts are valuable and people hunt for them.

Gameplay is FPS with some RPG elements. AI is competent enough, it generally uses no scripts but rather an A-Life simulation system, and there is a realistic, albeit exaggerated ballistics system. Weapons are quite lethal, aside from starting ones.

Shadow of Chernobyl has the best atmosphere, Call of Pripyat has the best overall gameplay.
>>
>>343411182
I think SoC is the best introduction. It's a game best left to being played with almost no idea about, I plunged head first into SoC and had one of the best experiences I have ever had in a game.
>>
I would just like to say that dooty suck, mercs rule and freedom drools

Metro 2033 in hardest difficulty gave me a similar feeling, although is a lot more lineal.
