Yes, the design is the same, I noticed that. Yet the nexus has the weird huge size of it with those statues and golden glow all over the thing. Also the characters were almost interacting because of how close they were and their 'factions'. DS3 nexus feels like a tomb and even if it is, in fact deliberate, it still feels lifeless and boring.

What are you talking about? The characters in DeS are one of the best in the series. In fact, DS3 carbon copies Yuria, Mephistopheles, Yurt and Biohr in an almost offensive way. Compare Yuria with Karla: same set, literally same description of set , same raped/imprisoned story, same traits... they even have the same voice actress. The thing is that in DS3 they did less to accomodate those characters into the world.

I filtered everything prior to release, I preordered and didn't watch a single video, read a single interview or look at any screenshots.
I also had really strong filters for browsing /v/ so I didn't get a single thing spoiled and was able to play it completely blind.
I was still mildly disappointed, even after DaS2 lowered my expectations.
The bosses are good but the game just isn't that interesting or fun.
All the areas were boring for the most part.
Hopefully the DLC adds some really great areas to explore.

That didn't prevent him from doing all those things for real. Besides, even Gary Stus can fail, but when they do, it's "in a perfect way". They cannot be seen as fuckups, they can only be seen as "heroic in failure, their death will still be talked about for centuries". I don't know, we actually see those in gameplay.

While I don't think the game itself tries to present him as those things, I do agree that large chunks of the fans have a terrible habit of treating Artorias like that.
I mean, we had no reason to believe he was left-handed at all. That was a laughable misconception started by people jumping the gun over the box art. The three swords' special R2s are all done in the right hand as well, and the few moves Sif shares with Artorias involve Sif changing his grip to emulate the style we saw Artorias use them. Not only that, but the Abyss clearly powered up the residents of Oolacile, so the same was likely true of Artorias, making him much faster and stronger than he normally was. Sif was also a pup at the time and not yet great, and all things considered it was pretty stupid of Artorias to take his literal pet project with him on a serious mission. He lost even with the Silver Pendant too, and in the end his legend was, aside from the part where he walked the Abyss, a total lie.
I don't get why the fans hype him up so much. DaS 2 even caved to that crap by saying the "all wielders were left-handed" thing in the sword's description there too.
So I see dark souls has become a popular enough series that /v/ has to hate it to show off how cool and nonconformist they are now.

Andre mentions a divine blacksmith in Darkroot, so it's just assumed that he's a blacksmith that coincidentally looks like him. The statues are most likely leftovers from when he was the firstborn that they were too lazy to take out.
