IMO it's something to deal with Thaumaturgy. If it's got a corrupting influence and can wipe out civilations it's clearly some sort of physical entity. Malachai is corrupted by the Nightmare, trying to use its powers for his own end. He made a cataclysmic device (the rapture device) to purge Wraeclast, fucked with virtue gems, and encouraged sketchy research into Thaumaturgy.
Dialla was turned into what she is by Malachai. They dated. He treated her well but got bored with her, so he turned her over to Maligaro who turned her into a gemling (fusion of virtue gem + human). Having so many gems implanted made her a bit crazy. She sees you as not-a-cockroach, or a being of immense capability, and uses you to get her revenge on her ex.
I agree though. Nightmare is vague, but personally I like the "unknowable cosmic horror" thing it's got going on. I'm sure when they release A5 things will get fleshed out a bit more...

See, I basically agree with you, the unknowable horror is a good premise. But in act four, the rapture device is just a laser cannon that shoots a hole in a wall, at which point you transition to the fleshy zones for some reason.
They also seem to have traded in "unknowable cosmic horror," which is neat, for "faggoty end boss Malachai," which is not. I dunno, it seems like act four turned the unknowable dread into the knowable farce, which is after all why Lovecraft usually had the sense to end his stories before revealing anything.

I can't get out of the tutorial because I can't figure the fuck out what the game wants me to do in the first "boss fight". I can read nip just fine, but whatever the game is trying to get me to trigger won't for some reason.
Training missions in Nanodiver are amazing. You actually go into a petri dish instead of a human body, and they have artificial shit all over the place. Different chapters and ranks also unlock different parts of the patient's bodies when you get to later missions, and there's realistic shit happening like certain maps forcing you to loop in one direction because of blood flow. Did you ever see the episode of the Iron Man cartoon where he went inside of Hawkeye, and kicked the shit out of Ultimo by kicking him into Hawkeye's spinal cord or whatever? You can even do that to the "monsters" you hunt in certain maps.
Fucking love that game, shame I had to download a save.

That game was particularly painful. It didn't help that all of the M&L 2d vore segments were far and away the worst part of the game. Each vore segment was just 20 minutes of slow-paced crappy puzzles with gameplay-interrupting gimmicks, healthsponge generic enemies, memeoglobins, and a decent boss at the end.
