I'm playing New Vegas for the first time and I was completing all the quests in Freeside and finally got around to the Silver Rush and that asshole of a brother asked me to go get Cass. I brought her and I wasn't about to let my new waifu die so I had to slaughter everyone in there.
Little did I know Cass is a raving psychopath who then, for some reason, wanted to storm off to the Crimson Caravan and slaughter them too. So, I did that (after finishing up there quests). That is very much up for debate, but 3s map was fine. Better than 4's by a mile. Had plenty of interesting locations but it has the Bethesda "theme park" problem.
NV isn't trying to have crazy crater with a nuke in it cities, it builds believable looking towns but puts like 10 NPCs in each of them that are infinitely more interesting than anything that existed in 3.
The White Glove Society quest is one of my favorites for example, there are SO many fucking ways you can play that quest, and there is a very intriguing story going on that can kill or affect many different players in it. I get glued to my screen watching Mortimer talk in the dining room.
I don't know of one quest in 3 that captures my attention like that one, and that's just some random, non essential side quest that only takes like an hour.
If you are looking around NV's cities for 30 seconds and never returning, you are probably missing some really interesting shit that talking to the right person would have started.

I was extremely surprised Todd wasn't going to push a redemption DLC for Mothership Zeta in the form of a space DLC where you visit US/Chinese/International remnants remnants still in conflict on the moon. Maybe some plot about a successful Enclave moonbase vs ex-personal who rebelled when they got all fascist and exploitative. Hell, maybe make it over a bomb the Enclave wants to drop to cleanse the country that the remnants have been fighting for centuries to keep from happening (enclave base has key slot panel, ex-enclave have keys/launch codes).
Would've been sorta neat to travel over to a pre-war space shuttle launching area and after a few hours of dealing with the new people who moved in and the areas surrounding the launch site (some sort of low-tech group), you gain access to a pristine, but locked terminal with years of messages attempting to get in contact with the ground (again, inhabitants too stupid to interact with console). Both enclave & ex-enclave forces want you to bring some McGuffin related to the moon base's payload, and bring it up in a rocket that's been kept prepared for years by autonomous robots.
Anyway, I'm rambling, but as angry as I know I would've been about spaaaaaaace, I think there's some way to make it work.
