A much better experience than the last trial gave people that's for sure.
You'll be able to play up to where the story and combat actually get interesting for free. If you can try to make a friend, though you can play solo if you really must.

It is a damn slow start, you might need cross class skills, which means killing stuff /fates etc for xp. Que time is horrible of you are dps. Small zones until exp pack, same goes with story.
But it's a good mmo
An okay mmo to sub to 2-4 months a year tops.
Gas the lalas, race war meow.
You won't see anything but weak story events in the demo. If you buy it and play it, you still won't see anything but a single player game with optional raiding at the end. And everything can be done in 1 month, before you have to sub.
That being said, I still think its worth playing the single player story once. And lalafells are cute. It just sucks as an MMO. But the same can be said of all MMOs.

let's just say I was like you. DLd the trial. 20 hours in when I got to level 30ish I was hooked and that's when I bought it. If you do end up buying it, get the whole bundle on steam for $30 (includes base game + Heavensward + 30 days sub) before the summer ends July 4th.
so far it's a nice role playing game, combat is wow-esque which will feel familiar but it feels like final fantasy. I hear the expansion is fantasic too.
How the fuck do I unlock the expansion content? I'm 51 and don't see anymore story quests anywhere. I completed the king noodle quest and apparently minfilia is supposed to give the next quest but she doesn't have a quest for me.

Lalafells are cute. The world is probably the most beautiful world in a FF game. The music is one of, if not the best OST in Final Fantasy.
But the gameplay, story and multiplayer parts are all shit. Its a time wasting MMO that focuses on finite story and content. Going against its very purpose. No wonder it has such a high turn over rate.

It's pretty fun as a game. If you spend the money and expect a FF story you're get your moneys worth for sure, on the otherside it's an MMO and how you hang about with people is on you but affects your time with the game negatively and/or positively, otherwise I think it's pretty fun in general.

My first character is an arcanist because I heard they're the main pet class. Do their pets transfer over to other jobs?
Expect good level 50 dungeons, Disappointing level 60 heavensward dungeons with exception to a couple, mediocre story at best if you care about that and varied classes which get good at 60. Also expect to get disappointing at bards since 90% of them forget what songs do.

No. One of the big flaws of FFXIV is that you can only be one class at a time. Yoshi says its for 'balance'. In other words, he wants to keep to the rigid trinity system and make sure everyone is the same. Which is why FFXIV has no shelf life.
