It wouldn't be much slower and you would have the advantage of easily being able to see the map while playing. I personally feel that'd be too slow and with a wide margin of error on the player's part. In my view, since the current means of superjumping is done in a single pressor a half-press, if you prefer, the new way should also work by a single press.

is it really that much slower? The time it takes you to look down is equivalent to the time it takes to press a button, if not slower. The time it takes you to remove your hand from the controller and tap the screen is equivalent to the time it takes to aim at a target, if not slower.
I mean, in the game you already do precise aiming in-game, so asking you do aim precisely in order to jump isn't that much of a stretch. Especially since the jumps themselves are hardly precise.

given most people use the gryo controls, and gyro works best when the controller is held almost parallel to your television, I don't think you really "look down" at the gamepad screen in splatoon. Though even if you did when you play, you definitely don't need to when superjumping to other players (since those have their own buttons on in a fixed location, you'd only need to glance at that at the start of the match to know who's who, really).

Consider how quickly and precisely you can aim at another moving player in game. If you can see the map ahead of time and know where you will need to put the cursor it should be very fast. It may even be faster than taking the time to look away from the tv to press on someone. It is not like you will be selecting the target with the analog stick or cycling through a list with the d-pad.

I'm talking about the precision of your hands here and not the controllers. Holding a controller up and turning it will always be more difficult and you will have some shake in your hands. Pressing the trigger can slightly mess up your aim if you aren't careful. Resting the mouse on a table removes all of this.
