What is /v/'s opinion of Amnesia: The Dark Descent?
Should I pick it up?
Is it scary?
Only if you like walking simulators with puzzles and obscure storylines.
I couldn't get into it. Outlast started out a little better, but it was also boring.

I tried to play it through twice but I didn't continue for long after the water area with the invisible monster.
Got 9 hours played, but I'm far from finishing it.
I never watch spooky movies or play spooky games, and I lower the volume on any youtube video with spooky music especially if it's one of those things like "top 5 scaries things" (watching it still fascinates me a little though).
If you're anything like me, you'll either have a great time or never finish playing it.

There's some tension in the beginning. Honestly, after the monster was revealed it lost all the sense of dread and became pretty generic feeling for me.
Best horror game i've played. Not that scary, but it's actually fun to play and solve those puzzles.
Fun game, not really scary, tho i think that depends on the person playing.

I remember liking A Machine For Pigs, but I can't remember what it was actually about. Good stuff though, for a walking simulator.
Penumbra is better
It has a few tense moments but gathering and combining bullshit items to fix some other bullshit in order to progress got old real fast. I guess adventure game mechanics aren't for me. What you should definitely play though is SOMA. Even though it's an actual walking simulator the setting,atmosphere and plot are really good.

Play SOMA instead. It's the same concept but with better atmosphere, better story and better pacing.
