The game doesn't really rush you. Take your time doing things, since the pinatas don't really need much in the way of care.
Watch how much you plant; they tend to wilt easily.
Slowly attract new pinata breeds to your garden. Note that changing your garden in pretty much any regard (digging ponds, adding grass, lights) attracts a new kind of pinata. And if those new pinata become residents then so too, will new pinata come (generally carnivorous ones.)
Most importantly, sit back and relax. It's not a hard game.
Also try to convert sour pinata to get new types of breeds and to increase your gardening level.
