Was this DLC any good, /v/?
>>
>>343250864
no.

The new aliens get to act whenever you make an action,

You move, they can move/attack/etc

it's bullshit
>>
>>343251987
>the dlc is too challenging for my baby mind
The dlc adds new weapons and armors the new alien rulers are challenging in a good way and adds variety to the missions
>>
>>343251987
freeze bomb is pretty baller
>>
>>343251987
the bullshit is archon king's everything and berzerker queen being able to aoe knock people unconscious.
>>
>>343250864
Horrible. They tried to make boss fights work in Xcom but decided that it would have to break rules no sane person would expect
>>
Are MECs in yet?
>>
>>343253058
Not until the next dlc
>>
This DLC is very bad for a lot of reasons. Check the reviews on the Steam store page, most of them are pretty accurate.

The long and short of it is that it makes Ironman games basically unplayable and really adds nothing of value to the game. If you were unfortunate enough to buy the season pass (like me), you'll probably wind up uninstalling the DLC for future games (like me).
>>
>>343250864
I'm holding off on replaying XCOM 2 until all the DLC are out.
From what I have heard, its really, really hard.
And the new arm and stuff is cool.
I look forward to them adding mec troops back.
>>
>>343250864
God damn this game was such a piece of shit.

Maybe it'll get better once the whole product is finally released. Otherwise you might as well play an older XCOM and have a better time.
>>
>>343255361
With all the mods that are out and the fixes since release its hard to not recommend at least a half way Ironman Run to try them out
>>
>>343250864
The effects of the new armor and weapons are cool, but look absolutely goofy
The bosses added don't just bring new rules to the fight, they outright break everything established in the series and outright cheat; they are absolutely bullshit
Has anyone modded this DLC to balance it out?
>>
>>343255683
>good sequel to xcom 2012
>says it's a piece of shit not being similar to older xcom games
>>
>>343251987
So what was with Firaxis deciding to make the game actively worse with every DLC?

At this point, "Shen's Last Gift" will be the game reformatting your hard drive.

>enemies ignoring the turn-based structure in a turn-based game
>justifiable in any sense
>>
>>343256636
>>343256840
Its not the difficulty, its that the bosses break all the rules of the game and require you to carry around gimmick weapons at all times since they are random encounters. The Armor they give also just breaks the game and makes it to easy. What the fuck were they thinking when they added random boss fights to missions that already have time limits?
>>
>>343256840
>>343256636
It'd be hard in a fair way if the bosses didn't have the ability to destroy a unit every movement you make with said units. It's all because of that one new rule where they can move every action that fucks everything up
>>
>>343256943
Every turn in xcom is considered a few seconds in real time. The rulers are genetically enhanced. So of course their gonna move every turn. they are moving at quicker speeds.
>>
>>343256943
There are shit ton of item and ability to counter them though. Personally, I like running 4 Rapid fire shotgunner. Those 25 damage + double crit one shot everything. They can also be executed
>>
It was alright. The real crime is that all the new weapons and armors dont mesh with the general style of the game at all.

So enemies move every time you move a soldier instead of at the end of your turn?

What bullshit.
>>
>>343258678
They disappear after a few turns.

Viper is kind of a joke, really, and the floater one just means you gotta keep spread out enough not to get wrecked by the rockets.

berserker on the other hand....
>>
>>343257124
I can wait for when they re-add the gene lab and my soldiers can move every time an enemy does.
>>
>>343258808
If you're prepared for it except the berserker its not too bad. Honestly it was the only challenging thing about the game after I got soldiers above the 3rd rank.

Don't know if kill zone procs more than once when they move.

It's really no worse or better than Gangplank or Elite Soldier Customization

The DLC is meant to be a challenge, the mission stays there forever and you can take it on anytime you want, the weapons being given beforehand. The only complaint I have is that it doesn't warn you these assholes will show up regularly afterwards.

The expansions are the only deal worth getting in Firaxis games, the DLC are quick funds along the way
>>
>>343258542
Final Fantasy is not an example of good design
>>
>>343258992
Elite Soldier customization was better than fucking Anarchy's Children, though. You're right about Gangplank generally being shit, although it's a fucking delight in Long War.

>>
>>343258808
>So enemies move every time you move a soldier instead of at the end of your turn?

only the special ones. and they move when you move, shoot, reload, etc... IN ADDITION TO THEIR NORMAL TURN

So you can have an enemy act TWELVE TIMES DURING YOUR TURN!

How is that NOT bullshit? Last line directed to >>343256636 >>343256840 >>343252534
>>
>>343260029
Don't forget the only way to stand a chance against them is to carry their hard counters with you on every mission to avoid a total wipe in case they show up. Then, of course, you get their absolutely broken gear if you beat them. Crazy how the DLC actively ruins item diversity.
>>
Can I just disable the dlc?
>>
>>343262195
Yea
Uncheck the DLC on the game's page in your library.
>>
>>343260029
Good news, friend! You can use the handy dandy new items that stun / incapacitate / do extreme amounts of damage to them, which are only available in the DLC!

And most of these new abilities (such as the throwing axe) don't consume an action and therefore don't trigger the boss alien special attacks! Hope you like bringing these items with you on every mission and making sure they are available / not on cooldown for when you randomly run into the boss!

Terrible DLC.

Just started a new game with the new DLC. Killed the viper king, he was pretty hard but just staved off being bullshit by having to reload after every shot. But from what Im hearing the other two crank the horse shit up to 11, I hope they fix it up a bit.

Also the anarchy children DLC what the fuck where they thinking?

at least they didnt go the route alot of devs these days do and charge money for stuff the moders already did.
>>
Jesus christ between the time limits and this now it seems really obvious they don't know how to add anything worthwhile to the mechanics of the first game. Do they have a different team making this or something?

There's nothing wrong with time limits. There should be more variable triggers for them, though, and more missions with multiple phases to them.

Is this game still just about throwing mimic beacons, have stasis on as many psi operatives as possible and if you don't kill a pod on your first turn you might as well go home.

Im going with yes.

>Is this game still just about throwing mimic beacons, have stasis on as many psi operatives as possible

My first time through the game on classic, I didn't use psi or mimic beacons at all. It was, like, 3 grenadiers, an shotgun specced assualy and a pistol specced ranger. Grenadiers carried me through the whole game
>>
>>343264890
>>343264978

There is nothing wrong with them in moderation, but as they are used they are mostly just a lazy as shit excuse to try to keep players from turtling since they couldn't figure out a better way to make you play aggressively.
>>
>>343265310
The only other way is a soft timer that states heavy reinforcements and they probably failed to make it not broken

Outside of RNG there's no real difficulty.
>>
>>343258678
A little late, but bosses can cast doom on your party if you take your sweet time fighting them. Granted it's not perma death if you saved beforehand, but I tend to do that often so I get fucked good.
>>
>>343251987
they saw that the playerbase that stuck with the game for multiple playthroughs would bend the game over and give it the dick, essentially never taking any losses. this was their solution to barren memorial walls, I suppose.
>>
>>343267908
meh, the game is based around having a few super soldiers instead of the meatgrinder of the original X-COMs.

Soldiers are so OP in the new ones that the only way they can be killed is if the devs shit on your mouth and just take them from you. And since they're not easy to replace as any random soldier in the originals, it's a fucking pain in the ass.
>>
>>343267908

>The cosmetic I was the most psyched for was XcomEU/EW armor ported over, or the advent armor for Xcom.

Vanilla T2 I guess fit but it looked like ass.
Vanilla T3 they just fucked up by making it skin tight. EU's power armor was on point for being human-like in design but looking beefy and thick and padded.

With the weapons I loved T2's look, T3's I didn't like but that is just a personal taste point of view. They look fine but I miss the heavy nasty feeling of plasma in Xcom1. Where instead of a single charged beam you had thick globs of death.

>>343265991

The pistol is literally a wheel-lock looking thing.
>>
>>343267482
Bullet sponge or RNG, the only ways western dev can into 'difficulty'
>>
>>343268465
Absolutely. The game has this awful inverted difficulty curve where the abilities you get vastly overpower anything the enemy has. Grenadiers get massive AoE attacks with various debuffs, can fire multiple grenades on a turn, and get an absolute shitload of them. Psiguys don't level up via missions any more, so you can just stick them in an incubator until they hatch into pod-wiping gods. Enjoy controlling a Gatekeeper for an entire mission, or freezing a pesky Sectopod in place for a whole turn. You can pull shit like this >>343265214 on a whim.

Got mods to do that. I miss the lasers in Xcom1 along with the plasma. Gauss is fucking baller in Xcom2 though, hell of a lot better than the weird tink-tink-tink hollow-ish noise you had in Long-Dong's gauss.

On the plus side with a lot of cosmetic mods I've fallen in love with the spess mehreen look. Generic, sure, but it gets results.

>>343265214
>>343265116

Even in Long dong while I pathologically tried to always wipe out a pod on a single turn (later game it was impossible, especially with landed ufos) it didn't feel like an apocalypse if you didn't wipe them out. I think if I had to blame something specifically it is how cover works (I believe it's documented how the lower the chance of the enemy hitting you paradoxically the higher the chance of a crit.). Xcom1 full cover meant if you were hit you had low-medium damage but in Xcom2 I have consistently had high damage and even a critical hit in a perpendicular shot on full cover (both against an enemy or against my guys).

The funny thing is I think in playing for 202 hours I've had a Sectopod shoot at me once. Otherwise every single time I will wipe it out the minute I meet it because of how high a threat I think it is.

>>343269156

Yeah while I disliked Xcom2's T2 (Exo suit looked great though. Is it >>343269709 ) and T3 armor by comparison with the past they looked good. Xcom95's wasn't terrible but then Apocalypse was just ayyy wtf.

But EU/EW to me knocked it out of the park and there wasn't a single cosmetic I didn't like.

What I know I really miss is Mutons being the main frontline foe. Advent has the charm of cyberpunk feel but I liked those big mean fighting machines. They seem too penis-head spandex in Xcom2. Granted they were literal green penis-apes in spandex in Xcom95.

Nope. The new enemies are just 3 mini bosses and they are absolutely dog shit in terms of balance. Your only strategy against them is to stand still and take shots. You can't move, you can't hunker, you can't heal. You just try to do damage while receiving guaranteed damage.

It's awful.
>>

I really had high hopes for the DLC since Firaxis did good work with EU and Civ 5.
>>
>>343270264

Wanna feel better?

Look at what someone is making for a replacement to Xcom2 Plasma: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=707170261

Compare the welcome-to-earth-fuck-you look of that mercenary plasma beam vs https://fsmedia.imgix.net/d6/88/40/c8/6497/4ff4/915f/fcf08b402390/xcom-2-is-a-tough-game-but-follow-this-guide-and-youll-have-plasma-weapons-in-no-time-guarantee.jpeg . I mean it looks nice but almost too nice for 'tony st- central bradford made this in a cave while drunk'

You've also got the Halo reach weapons (regardless of preferring halo or not they look cool), and mods that let you keep using ballistic or magnetics to T3.

But I'm a New conglomerate/Terran kind of guy, if you want to go "We must beat the Ayys by becoming them" then vanilla T3 is perfect.

Using items that stun, freeze or distract enemies works, flashbangs and so on work too, sword slash debuffs, a psi operative or two can keep them under control.

Its okay really.
The toughest one was probably the archon because of DODGE: Grazed! a mechanic for which someone should be killed.

The archon seems like a fucking nightmare to fight. His blazing pinions are incredibly retarded. The one time I fought him he was about to launch but my grenadier got him with a 10% execution.
>>
>>343272963
Yeah it was genuinely unfun the few times ive had to fight him. I'd say its the worst point of the DLC.
First time seeing him a playthrough was ruined by me starting with most of my men on a rooftop, I tried to clear out the squad but I lost three men to the pinions exploding and falling through a few floors.

In that scenario i really would like if they took longer to trigger but then that's breaking the 'ruler' rules I suppose.
Should have sent out the guy with freeze nades first, just in case.
