As a Korean, I know why Mukbang is so popular in Korea and why they love watching somebody eating foods. Because they temporarily forget sufferings of life. Because the desire for food is the most powerful thing that can give humans pleasure. So, they could forget some mental sufferings for some time. It's not shocking that South Korea has recorded the world's highest suicide rate. They need some substitutions for mental sufferings.
