Game turned to shit
Even if it didn't you really can't play a game for so long without getting bored with it.
Move on
>>
>>343208680
the game always sucked but there was hope that it might become better.
notch was a faggot though that never actually added the necessary improvements.
the modding community is just as autistic too, they refuse to make good mods that add good gameplay to the game.
so yea, it's still unfinished.
>>
There was a lot of promises, the game was originally going to become something like a 3d dwarf fortress

i think minecraft doesn't talk about it. theres always a general up on /v/ but they are mostly concerned with modding. i play fully vanilla minecraft, and i still love it 5 years of playing now. probably part to the server i play on, the game and community remains dynamic and interesting.

i love building autisticly large, optimizng farms. heres one i built on a vanilla mc server

>>343209651
i always hear this come up. this is my dream that it becomes more dwarf fortress like, micro manageable/ afkable. too bad devs seem to shit on most of the mechanics that have made it most fun in the past
>>
Literally ruined by the hunger system, instead of making it actually difficult they just turned it into a facebook game
>>
notch used to post here but then he moved to reddit
>>
Mojang ruined it. After 1.6 they had changed it so much that it was a different game. 1.9 was the final nail in the coffin.

All the hunger system did was make the process of healing slower...
The older versions are still there though, and there are probably mods that remove the hunger bar.

this is probably true for the retards on the site but I always thought this game was unfinished and ASSUMED notch was going to turn it into a game at some point.
he just never did that, it's never gained video game status.

the rest of the people that didn't care, continued not to care
>>
>>343213067
minecraft has more content but it doesn't have basic gameplay features.
they just kept adding lots of content but there isn't really any kind of decision making.
it probably has really slightly more gameplay than pong which was more of a demonstration that video games are a thing you can do.

Remnants of them.

You can kill a new mob called an "Enderman" (Play off of Slenderman) and take their drops. You then use what you get from them to craft an eye. Tossing around the eye will lead you to a spot in the world. Digging this location will uncover a "Stronghold."

A stronghold is a large, dungeon-like structure underground. It's pretty much assumed an ancient race of cave-dwellers built them.

I still greatly enjoy playing mod packs.
No game has the same level of automation progression.

Factorio is close, but you don't really ever have to manually craft tedious shit that is later automated. Which is rewarding in its own bizarre way.
Plus you almost always have stuff to spend resources on, since you just start a new resource sinking mod each time you have excess (Thaumcraft is my resource dump of choice)

Try making a farm in a snow biome. The water will freeze. I had to run the the nether and get glowstone to place under each water block just to get a farm going.

Also, creepers and endermen.

>no problems to solve.

It's a sandbox. The problems are whatever the fuck you want to do.

"I want to build something" becomes "I have to gather blocks now."

It gets even worse if you want to get good at redstone.

I don't think anyone foresaw the explosive popularity of minecraft and the kind of crowd that brings. It's a pretty common cycle here. Just look at Undertale and the bile that community spawned.

I still play a bit of minecraft, just with one of those huge FTB modpacks on a private server with some friends. It's a fun time waster when you want to play virtual legos with people.

Here's the first house I built on Indev about 6-7 years ago. Shit was impressive then lemme tell you hwhat.

Roll back to Beta 1.3 and update from there.

you could just use blender and experience the same level of problem solving as minecraft (considerably more actually) and you can literally make anything.
but that's not why people play minecraft I already KNOW the reason people play minecraft is they fundamentally actually hate the concept of problem solving which is why they hate the adventure update.

Undertale has a more vocal hatebase than fanbase. At least they stick to their own communities on /vg/, miiverse, and Tumblr. Undertale haters are just as annoying as militant atheists, or furries, or diehard SJWs complaining about an imaginary persecutor.

Minecraft, on the other hand, is like 90% under-18s, and 50% under-14s. The fanbase is almost entirely made up of children, autistic children at that. Minecraft fanbase is basically Sonic fanbase, but less furry.

I'm not trying to come off as smart I'm just accurately using words and expressing my opinions and observations.
why are you such a cunt do you not want to argue and come to an understanding? like I honestly want to know redeeming features of minecraft but people just list content instead of breaking things down beyond that and it's pissing me off. like I experienced minecraft for 20 hours and figured out there was nothing beyond what I experienced. like I couldn't develop my minecraft play beyond the first hour of play. there's literally nothing else to learn after the first hour or so because it's actually completely solvable as a game which is fucking stupid it should be so complicated YET intuitively simple that it's not solvable.

Most of that is.. perfectly fine? It's suppose to do all of that. The only thing I agree that makes no sense is the HP recovery. That should be a graduated scale down the hunger line. Near-starvation should still heal, just vastly slower.
>>
It isn't just that it became popular, it's that the game had a lot of great ideas at the beginning that were never actually touched on. It feels like a bunch of unfinished concepts than it does a game.

Rather than adding any depth to things that were already there, they decided to keep adding new features on the surface to make it more flashy. Of course this made the game more popular, because casual players only care about how much stuff they can do rather than how deep they can go into one thing, but it really drove off the old community.
>>
>>343217484
It's sad that you're right. Things can be "too" video-gamey nowadays.

>have tiny golem minions to do my bidding
>huge farm staffed by golems
>each door is guarded by a pair of golems with a bow and fire enchant (and fez to add some class (and faster regeneration))

>machine that digs huge holes for me and feeds the resources into my computer storage

Mods get pretty fucking crazy if you keep playing them.

Witchery is what I am working on now. It's kinda less fun that Thaumcraft so far due to the lack of a clear progression path. Once you get the basics set up its just NOW YOU CAN DO ALLLLL THIS, where as Thaumcraft you unlock and item which unlocks more items.

I feel like there's a difference between just slapping on a bunch of extraneous mechanics and calling it a day, and actually adding mechanics that help build up the game.

Terraria is a good example of the later. None of the mechanics are extraneous. They're all vital to the game, and removing any one of them would have drastic consequences and force other parts of the game to change. Minecraft would not change at all if you removed hunger, or wolves, or dual wielding.

No, hunger literally ruined Minecraft. You're one of the few autistic people I've seen that actually likes the mechanic. It straight up made the game worse. Everything it was "supposed" to do was bad, and did nothing good for the game.

Imagine if they added fatigue into the game. You had to stop and catch your breath every once and a while, and it happened at random after some excursion. It would be more realistic, like hunger, but almost nearly as negatively impactful to the game experience. It's the same thing with tripping in Brawl.
>>
Modded minecraft is one of the best gaming experiences ever. But you can't tell anyone about it without them looking at you weird and laughing because minecraft is lame and for babies.

Minecraft is about giving the player reasonable freedom to play and do what they would like. There is a basic progression system to it given how the minerals work. You start off with wood and move onto more durable and efficient materials to pursue your goals. There is a great amount of freedom over how you as a player is able to tackle any challenges you might come across. You are able to build yourself a base or just wander around finding and discovering things for materials and goodies you might not find by sticking around in one place. Building is a core part of the game and it allows the player to try and make something to express their creativity or just pass time. There are a couple bosses which serve as some sort of major goal, making players try to prepare themselves for those encounters and to go through the process of getting to fight them too. I can't say the same thing now, but it used to have a very charming and mysterious feel that created another layer of interest in playing.

Saying Minecraft doesn't qualify as a game is a ridiculous claim and whether some of these features were implemented competently is debatable. But it is still very much a video game. I don't even know if you're actually serious but I would seriously suggest knowing what you're talking about before spouting stupid claims without knowing what the fuck you're talking about.

It's a shame it stopped updating.
Most of Tekkit mechanics are done by other mods (and better) except the Digital Miner, which has no equivalent in FTB:IE and is FAR better than the BuildCraft Quarry.

BuildCraft is kinda shit in general. Pretty much always the worst way to do shit when compared to IC2.

I don't know. I played in alpha, beta, I play now, I play vanilla or modded. I prefer hunger as it is right now over scarfing down porkchops to not die because food healed directly.
>>
>>343218472
Are you retarded? Fishing actually is important, because it's how you get materials for potions, which is how you beat Expert Mode. Fishing quests are an important part of the game. There's very little "fluff" in Terraria, and it's mostly just the computing shit you can do with wiring now.
>>

so is it worth downloading and playing FTB then? I really miss tekkit with friends, is it a good successor?

It might be kinda hard to get used to cuz some buildcraft stuff is permanently in my head

Digital miner is bullshit. Way too op. Quarry is a lot more fun to actually use. When you return from whatever else you were doing and open up that quarry chest is the best feeling. And then you check the walls to see if it missed anything important. The only downside is when you hit fucking oil and the bitch wont dig through it.

The later system you mentioned was far, far superior.

Maybe it's just too video-gamey for you. For us, however, it's not video-gamey enough, which is why Minecraft is hated on the VIDEO GAMES board.

Buildcraft is in FTB:IE. But really only the pipes are ever worth using (and they are fairly laggy).

Just use the Pulverizor and Redstone Furnace from IC2 for crushing and smelting (as soon as you can) or Tinkers Construct to double ores.

Are you seriously taking memes for reality? We used to love Minecraft here, before it became too "realistic". Wolves were the beginning of the end. Then we got awful update after awful update, until the coup de grace of hunger was added.

There were hundreds of hype threads before 1.7 and 1.8 were released, and now no one here likes Minecraft.

>>343219091
>We used to love _______ and now no one here likes _______.
Applies to pretty much every game.
>>
>>343218669

Digital Miner is more end game than Quarry though. A nice trade off for not leaving a massive hole.

Not that you cant just use a Builder Wand to cover the top, sometimes you don't want massive square holes in the ground.

It's okay. Expert Mode is awful, so it's not like you're missing much. The potions aren't integral to beating Normal Mode like they are for Expert Mode, but they're still useful for giving you an edge in a fight, since you can apply infinite amounts of them.
>>
>>343219187
Not really. Terraria and Subnautica are roughly in the same genre as Minecraft, and they're praised here every day. Subnautica does realism better than Minecraft, while also being better as a video game. Terraria has almost no realism, but it's one of the best video games in ages. Minecraft is just at that awful middle ground where it completely blows at being a video game and being realistic.

>>
>>343218316
yea it's a video game but I'm just REALLY pissed off that I somehow deluded myself into thinking that building a gigantic fort with efficient defenses even mattered in minecraft because there's nothing attacking my fort and there's no threats in the game.
like, even instantly terraforming the terrain doesn't even matter because the fights are such retarded jokes.
like maybe other people haven't built things since they're 10 years old like me so they just really think the idea of building things in a thing is a novel concept but I need there to be reasons to build things in a game for me to actually use the feature.
like, I thought minecraft was going to be about using your creativity to overcome obstacles but it's not at all so I'm pissed off that it's undeveloped potential. like I WANT to chart and take over undiscovered territories with advanced machines I made I don't know about you but I could just do autistic boring shit instead to get more resources so it's fucking stupid.

Food is such a terrible mechanic and a mere annoyance more than anything
My friend and I recently started playing again like we usally do in little spurts at a time and we easily constructed a huge ass farm now that hunger bar is useless due to having stacks upon stacks of carrots bread chicken mutton steaks etc. etc.

I still don't get why Hunger is really that big of an issue outside of how it basically makes the game go slower and have your actions have some form of consequence which is negated by exploring around and taking the bread/other shit from chest at Monster Spawners in Mob Houses and traveling around on foot to kill some Cows and Pigs constantly, since Cobblestone/Coal is readily available throughout the entire game.

I'm not saying that the instant healing was a bad thing, fuck no. If there's one thing I'm disappointed about, its the fact that potions don't supplement the player with that same sort of healing from what I've seen, which is utterly ridiculous.

I don't mind hunger as a system, as it gives some decision's to make as well as some hassle for whenever you've packed too little. If there's one problem I have with it, its that the dev's focused on it to such a ridiculous degree and made the game so fucking slow in a game where combat is literally press Mouse 1 and W every so often to win.

I like how they tried to at least fucking manage resource management into their gameplay for fighting, but they did it in such a lackluster way. Fucking Terraria barely even bothered with it (and ultimately, its use is really not even too much needed) and it was still a fucking grand execution because of how much it flowed with the gameplay.

tl;dr Hunger is an alright and simple mechanic, but the other shit that came along with it made the game too much of a chore

I mostly want the Owls (hoping they can deliver shit to far away players, the website says they teleport if it's over 128 blocks. I want some way to send exploring players tools they may have forgotten.) and Lycanthropy seems fun.
I made the mistake of starting with Thaumcraft which has a VERY well done book tied to it, that walks you through things in a reasonable manor and makes it easy to find info you need.

I am still working on Thaumcraft and some of it's expansion mods. Not sure how the Think Tank works, but I really hope it just lets me skip that research minigame that I am sick to death of.

Thaumcraft is probably the best magic mod in terms of how complex it is/skill ceiling/ease of learning/understanding it
Blood Magic has a ragtag book that explains very little cryptically, Botania is garbage because Vazkii is a ginormous faggot, and Witchery is low-key neato
Think Tank eats books and shits out knowledge fragments, which give you primal aspects
