OP did the right thing coming here. I would personally go for an i7 6700k but if you are on a budget and don't need hyperthreadding stick with the i5. As long as you run a single card you will have no bottleneck.

Are you looking to buy a processor today to build a new PC? If so, buy a 6700k/6600k (depending on cash on hand). Don't buy processors from previous generations unless you get an absolute steal for them (e.g. 4690k for 120 bucks or a 3770k for 100, etc)
If you are looking to upgrade from the i5 4690k...you can absolutely wait. Or use that cash for another upgrade (RAM, GPU, monitors)
