X-2 is one of my favorite FFs for the reasons you described. Only thing i wish was different was the way job progression worked. Id prefer a linear game with job segments unlocked like FFV did. Beating the game and mastering 3 jobs per character was a bit disappointing for me. i get its great for replayability, but thats not want i want in a JRPG.

Its definitely worth playing. Default has an issue with it, but it can be blown through really quickly. If backtracking doesnt bother you, you will have no issue with it. The job system is amazing, but pretty easily broken. Boss fights are where the game shine, especially in chapters 5+

I liked it but I would've liked it more if it was balanced better. If you do all the side quests(or at least go to each area every chapter) the game becomes so laughably easy. I was sitting on 99 Potions after the first hour or two just from random battles, and 99% of enemies never did more than 200 damage per attack. When I was leveling up a White Mage I didn't have to do anything but spam Pray and there was literally no chance at dying.

It's been a long time since I played FFX-2, but when I played it I generally focused on one dressphere per character rather than spreading points into everything. I particularly focused on yuna's special dressphere because it could basically do everything itself. Was this the best approach for the main game (I didn't bother with the optional dungeon)? If not, what sort of distribution would be optimal?
Also, while I like how turns come faster when you have higher speed and certain attacks have longer cooldown, I didn't like the ATB system at all. What exactly does it add?
