If you're on offense and everybody is doing their own thing, find the best player on your team and stick to them like glue.
If they're offensive and not dying a bunch, your shields will only make them stronger, and the shield taking the hits will make you stronger, then you can go for the toblerone.

I see. I think I'm actually pretty decent at using my shields. I usually end up blocking over 2000-2500 damage by the end of the game. I just let people shoot at me for a little bit first to bait them and then activate the shield. It works surprisingly well.
It's just hard to not try to be a lonewolf.

Save people from high damage skills/situations (Reinhardt charge, Roadhogg hook,etc)

Zarya is 90% timing. But if you get good, she's on par with Roadhogg for best tank, if not better.

Bait people into attacking you by letting yourself take some shield HP then pop your barrier while they are committed to attacking. That will give you near guaranteed charge.
For projected barriers enable friendly health in the options for Zarya and shield people when you see them losing health. Also shield when you seek hooks, stuns, charges, or hear an ult coming.
The barrier prevents effects like stun and freeze build up and will reset freeze build up. Use this to punish greedy Mei's and McCrees.
The beam ignores Genji's reflect. You can kill him while he stares at you in confusion as to why he is dying while reflecting.
Walking into a Hanzo ult with a barrier is an easy 50 charge. Mei Ults are easy 100 charge if you and a teammate are in the area. Reinhardt ult's if timed can be ignored with barriers.
The last hit on a barrier will be completely blocked even it did more damage than the barrier's current health. This can be used to save a teammate or yourself from lets say a Tracer bomb. The bomb clearly does more than 200 damage, but the barrier will negate the extra damage past 200 when breaking. Even if the barrier had only 1hp left.
Non targeted attacks like Winston, sorta Symmetra, and Mei's left click are hard to finely aim who to attack and will often hit right into barriers without control.
Since turrets (both Torb and Symmetra) are AI controlled they will attack into your barriers without a second thought. Abuse this.
