Things like the weapons/upgrade system, enemy AI, and player level/stat scaling all have a heavy hand in how combat works in Soulsborne games. If you spend all your points in Strength and nothing in Stamina, your giant axe is worthless because you can only swing it once before having to recuperate stamina. Or without levels/proper scaling, it just becomes a race of farming or obtaining a better weapon that can dispatch enemies in one/two hits instead of having the player level into that kind of build by proper stat allocation and upgrading their weapon to scale accordingly.
So it's not that these two things are bad in their own right, as different games have managed to incorporate these things in a valuable and enjoyable way. it's the fact that we're talking about a studio that doesn't know _how_ to do it, and instead just throws whatever is popular in game design at the wall and hope that it makes something decent.

You understand this game could take place over years right? Hell if its paced like TLOU then it probably will. The kid could start off hitting weak points and annoying enemies. If they are smart then he will fight differently based on how you train him. You could have a teenage son as muscular as you with a sword or a twink son sniping enemies or a son that does magic. I'm fine with QTE's, God of War was one of the first games to really popularize them if I recall correctly, but in the trailer there's no button prompts or anything. The camera just cuts to Kratos getting pissed and then the troll kill happens fairly seamlessly which may simply be them not wanting to mar the imagery in the trailer with button prompts but given their talk of 'seamless experience,' 're imagining what the DNA of the series was' and the general trend of modern games it has me worried.
Maybe I'm being too pessimistic but to be honest I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than disappointed.

From what little we've seen of the game there's no reason for it to be a God of War game, you could replace Kratos with generic Berserker and nothing changes.
