Vidya clichés you actually like
>secrets behind waterfalls
>airships
>giant snails
>>343093856
>named attacks
>bosses name appears before the fight, with a subtitle
>ancient civilizations were technologically advanced
>>343093856
>final bossfight undergoes multiple transformations, progressively getting stronger
>>343093856
>cure hurts undead
>NOW YOU SHALL SEE MY -TRUUE- FORM!
My favorite one has to be that enemy that you fight multiple times throughout the game (Or maybe even the first fight) ends up being the final boss
>>343093856
giant snails are cliché ?
I wish more games had giant snails
>>343095580
fuck you halo 5
ITT: Nobody knows what a 'cliché' is.
>>343093856
>music for the final phase of the final boss is a heroic remix of the main theme/the hero's theme
>best weapon in the game has a long and convoluted unlock method but is 100% worth it due to being so overpowered/fun
>boss fights against enemies that are huge and FAST
>>343095751
there's plenty of fantasy games with giant versions of regular animals but yeah, I also wish it was more common
also flying whales
>>343095808
are you more inclined to the term 'trope'?
>bosses are just regular enemies, but bigger
Horseshoe level design.
>guys go on without me
>I'll..I'll hold them off
>now GO
every time
>>343094003
Oh man, characters naming their attacks has to be my favorite shit ever. It's part of why I love Xenoblade, Wonderful 101 and Viewtiful Joe so much. There's a world of difference between simply doing a flaming drop kick and yelling "RED HOT KICK!" while doing it.
when final fantasy 4 put secrets behind a waterfall, it was actually a fresh vidya concept
I distinctly remember being wowed by it
before that, final fantasy games only put secrets behind walls that you could arbitrarily walk through
>>343094003
>>343096251
Even better.
>attack connects
>just as it hits the screen pauses
>name of the attack in a cool ass font appears as character says it
>enemy proceeds to get his shit reckt
>The raggedy old man/old woman is actually a master of secret fighting techniques that they'll teach you if you prove your worth
>>343093856
how are airships or giant snails cliches?
>>343096204
>they dont hold them off
>>343099534
How are airships NOT cliché? They're basically in every fucking Squeenix game and most other fantasy RPGs in the same vein, not to mention Mario games since 3.
>>343099716
Cliche for final fantasy and maybe mario sure, but you dont ever see them in other games ever
>>343093856
Not a cliche, but dynamic music in any video game.
>staged end game boss fights where you have 1hp
>sudden comeback
>getting your fortune read
>Reader stops halfway because she is too afraid to continue
>>343099854
Nigga there's at LEAST 127 games with airships in them http://www.giantbomb.com/airship/3055-154/games/
That list also only lists 3 FF games and no Bravely Default so it's FAR from being complete and exhaustive.
>>343093856
>red barrel explodes when you shoot it
>>343100053
>Fortune reading is basically just the game's hint system telling you what you should do next to progress
>>343094003
>ancient civilizations were technologically advanced
It's just become so overused and it's nearly always lazily done.
>Beat the final boss
>Immediately have to face the secret final final boss
>boss grows increasingly more monsterous with each form
>takes a human form with his last one
>>343096204
>They survive and show up again right before taking on a boss or level
>>343100909
>Game with lots of weapons or super-powers or giant enemies and shit
>Final fight is a one-on-one fist fight at human size
>>343094519
>final bossfight undergoes multiple transformations, progressively getting stronger and the final phase is a weak version just struggling to survive
>Comfy hub where you can talk with your party members and appreciate the scenery.
>the group gets separated and you have to reunite them again
>meanwhile, each member has his own story/arce
>joke character ends up saving the MC/party when the final boss is about to kill them
>goes from being a bitch to the biggest bro in the game
>main villian is actually evil. No one can argue they deserve to live
>Party members have real interactions between themselves
>Leitmotifs
>comic relief character in a horror game
I find them entertaining given the setting they're in
>>343102738
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkrSFRQZ_dM
>>343102725
>it gets attacked while you're busy
>you have to find your party members and fight off the enemies
>you can potentially get a new one too
>Final boss fight with fucking amazing music
>Final Boss fight with a tough as shit phase and a phase you get super buffed
>Returning to a village you've been to before and see it changed/destroyed permanently
>Opening area is a regular village, forest and mossy dungeons or something similar depending on the setting
>White Orchard, Detroit in HR, Undead Burg etc.
>>343104550
you mean bland and lacking thought on the developers side?
>>343104779
Usually. Anything vanilla to the setting.
>>343104550
Seyda Neen.
>>343104550
>Opening area is comfy as fuck
>Character says "go do this menial task in this faraway cave SURELY NOTHING WILL GO WRONG"
>Finish task, come out of cave
>Village is burning and the bad guys are murderraping everyone
It's THE most cliché shit but I still love it.

>upgradeable base
>after doing all the "real" phases of a final boss you get to be superpowered and wail on them
