There are two main things that can fuck you up.
Remember to connect a charger during the whole process so it doesn't shutoff mid downgrade
Pay close attention on if you are using the right files, never use N3ds files on O3ds and vice-versa

The resolution is the 3DS's problem, not the 3D that you can turn off... They don't like making games in low resolution for the system, so the games end up looking a bit blurry. Your eyes are tricked into thinking they need to readjust, thus adding extra eye strain.

Honestly the only thing I feel like I miss out on is Monster Hunter, but then again I hate using the 3DS to play it. It also seems to possibly have a couple of SRPG's, which is my favorite genre, but they can wait. Especially since I heard one was way too easy. What else am I supposed to be missing out on?

I think the 3DS controls are the best the series ever had. Quickslots for items (and hunter arts for Generations), the ability to move UI elements to the lower screen and the intuitive, easy to use touch d-pad which is by far superior to a physical stick all make the 3DS MHs feel a lot more controllable than a console one.

Obviously I don't know what you want, but, for me, here's what I enjoy:
Portable emulation up to ps1 (barely, but anything below it is great with retroarch), Mario games on it are good, Kirby TD was okay but Robobot is great, the second Pokemon Mystery Dungeon was really good, pokemon in general was good (not OR:AS if you're not casual/can ignore flaws),
Zelda AL:BW is bretty gud although overrated, Ace Attorney main series is on it, Taiko games, Rhythm Heaven, Theatrythm, Paper Jam is okay, Professor Layton's real gud, has a ton of picross and various eshop titles that are great like Pushmo and it's sequels,
Binding of Isaac is gud (n3ds exclusive), Xenoblade 3d is good (n3ds only, if you've played the original and are nitpicky you'd rather just play the original, although it's a direct port that plays very well), ds backwards compatibility, Terraria plays very well with a new 3ds and controls are great,
7th dragon is gud, Pocket Card Jocky is fucking God tier.
Smash Bros., Animal Crossing, and the Zero Escape series is fucking amazing.

They have some flaws they need to actually fix for me to enjoy them again. Exploration should be based around key items, not HMs. That is how the games were originally planned, and would make the games 1000% more enjoyable to me.
Without getting into the rest, one good thing to keep in mind is I actually had a 3DS, then eventually bought a N3DS. I've actually played a good number of games although I may have missed some that I would have enjoyed. There isn't enough left for me to consider buying another one for $200+. Maybe if I could get another N3DS for $100 or less, but even that is a stretch. Too many other games to play.
Although I do like that I managed to sell my N3DS for $100 more than what I paid for it. It was that good looking MH limited edition one.

Your options are emulation, buying a ds and a flashcart or hacking your 3ds and getting a flashcart.
