She's honestly the only fun character to play as. Beck is terribly bland, and Call is just a dogshit version of Beck. It's just endlessly irritating having to listen to Ray moan and groan even when just jumping or attacking.

I turned on japanese voices and lowered the voice volume as soon as I got out of Beck's tutorial, so I can't say I've had that problem.
What's really an issue is that the announcer isn't considered a "voice", so even with the volume turned down you still have to deal with GOOD GREAT EXCELLENT FINE PLAY AMAZING

Not really since he pretty much became the main character in the X series post X3. The signs were there when X got caught and needed to be rescued by Zero.

Ray swaps between OW THE EDGE and "I must recover my memories", which is why her JP voice is like that. The English dub is hilariously bad though.
