The biggest oversight with Melee was the assumption that players would generally die when they get completely knocked out of the play area entirely, like a home run. In truth, just getting a player offstage at all can lead to a quick down b and a kill. This can happen at 0%. I think it's clear that Sakurai wanted a game where you can generally make it back to the stage, which is why Brawl is so much more floaty and has so many characters with great recovery, and smash 4 introduced ledge trumping. One of the reasons melee is so fast paced is because so many characters have so many good ways of securing a kill on a player that's off the stage. In the sense of "moves that can KO a player from center stage" >>342994378 is spot on, fox really only has a couple moves that can do that.

Melee got much more mature, almost dark artstyle which fits the fast and difficult gameplay of melee and makes it appeal to people beyond the age of 12.

Nope the original tutoral for Melee had Mario spiking a bowser recovering. It even said to intercept someones recovery. It was intentional for characters to gimp or kill people off stage.
