is shin megami tensei 2 good?
started playing it right now and i'm enjoying it so far
It's actually bad, stop enjoying it.
>>342960127
why is that?
It's great. It's my personal favourite, though it's not without fairly serious problems. It's probably because I'm a sucker for cyberpunk-like settings.
Have you played SMT I? It's not absolutely essential to play it first, but since II is a direct sequel it helps put a lot of things in context.
Also, Hiroko is best heroine.
>>342960214
no i haven't played 1 yet, 2 looked better gameplaywise so i thought i'd start there
i have played strange journey, devil survivor and persona 3 (not smt but whatever) before and i did enjoy those, but since smt2 is kinda old, i thought it might not be as good as the ones i have played
booting up smt1 now, might as well play this before 2 then
>>342960391
Well mechanically speaking SJ is more polished, definitely. Having about 10+ years to reflect on design decisions probably helps.
I still find the world of SMT II more interesting though, moreso than most of the other settings even. The world just feels more lived in and the different factions seem to matter more, mostly because you're not just an outsider in hellish alternative world that only just went to shit. I suppose SMT IV kind of did the same thing, but it just wasn't as interesting.
SMT II is...kind of mechanically broken as all shit, but the rest of the game really makes up for it. Be warned though, almost every decision you make can change things in ways you might not expect.
For example, sticking with default names when given the choice to change character names is actually a Law-aligned choice. Its kind of insane, but pretty interesting.
Best mainline gamewith worst soundtrack
>>342960871
i really didn't like the whole "us marine" plot in sj, i also thought the presentation was really bad, it could've really used some cutscenes imo
and is being law-aligned in smt2 good? because i chose the default names
>>342960935
>with worst soundtrack
You take that shit back.
>Not danching FURIOUSLY to this:

>>342961236
You should go for all alignment endings in the end, really, that's the best way to get the most out of the game. Being Neutral is probably best for most of the game, since it doesn't lock you out of certain demons and not so much gear, but it's not too big a deal to be Law or Chaos. The big decisions that lock you into one alignment or another aren't until late game anyway, and they're all pretty obvious.
You can shift your alignment as you go along depending on your decisions anyway. Also, donating to certain churches shifts your alignment a bit each time, thought that's a pretty expensive method.
Daleth's subplot was fucking weird.
>>342961989
A lot of the subplots were pretty weird.
>Loli fairy falls in love with you after being in your party for a few minutes
>Decides to more or less extinguish her existence by fusing with Hiroko, so she can love you through her
>>342962695
Most of them felt rushed, especially Daleth's, he fought you a few times and then disappeared.
I thought he was gonna be more important to the story, being the anti-messiah and all...
>>342962924
You'd have thought the supposed 'anti-messiah' would've sided with Lucifer or something, instead of being borderline comic relief. Ah well.
>>342963350
AndBeth's death was kind of awkward. I did some stuff with her around Tokyo and then she blew up.Hiroko is better anyway.
>>342963595
Yeah, it felt kind of out of place, like she was added at the last minute.
>Hiroko is better anyway.
Truer words have never been spoken. Bestmomfua man could ask for.
>>342963801Do you think she still could've been lactating throughout the events of the game?Just curious haha.
>>342963917
Probably would've been very uncomfortable when you're traveling the world and fighting cosmic beings.
Also, that's very lewd, anon.
>>342964691
I'm sorry.
>>342963917
>>342964691
Reminds me of that one Joseph X LisaLisa doujin.
Now I'm going to think about that shit whenever I change Hiroko's armour.
>When you think about it, you're technically controlling Aleph and making him change Hiroko's clothes for her
God dammit, anon, I didn't ask for this boner.
RANDY SHOT AND MAGIC BULLETS
At least its fucking map works
SMT 1 is suffering on wizardry 4 level
SMT II has some dumb stuff like having to check cows to progress and if you don't remember what you were doing in the abyss at any point you almost might as well restart
SJ is really good but SMT 1+2 is much more interesting
why do you care whether /v/ thinks it's good if you're enjoying it? would it matter?
>>342959997
No, it's fucking terrible and you should feel bad for enjoying it.
Seriously, though, who the fuck asks a question like that? Do you often find yourself enjoying things that you also find to be bad, so you need to double check this with /v/ just to make sure?
>>342965110
This game could definitely make some great doujins.
>>342965401
>SMT II has some dumb stuff like having to check cows to progress
Wait what. I remember some of the dungeons being obnoxious, but I don't know what you mean by 'check cows'.
>>342965886
You could get some seriously kinky shit with mixing it up between Hiroko and Nadja.
>>342966235
I wantNTR with Hiroko and Daleth. Incest and lactation would be nice too.
>>342959997
Yeah, so long as you grind Bodyconians for 99k of MAG right at the beginning of the game.
>>342966391
>NTR
>More of the scourge currently plaguing the doujin market the H-manga scene in general
Not even a thousand deaths, etc, etc.Now if you'd said Daleth being mindbroken by Houen, that would be a different matter.
>>342959997
>is game good?
>I'm playing it and liking it
TELL ME WHAT TO LIKE HIVEMIND!
Protag, I'm C.O.P.
what was his problem
>>342967881
BOO!ing Io never got old.
Your opinion on SHIN megami tensei if...
>>342960159
He's baiting you, SMT II is the best game in the series, far away.
>>342968639
This guy is a pussy.
>>342968852
why is he a pussy
>>342968731
Never
Ever
>>342959997
The original megaten is better
>>342968918
He always runs away when you intimidate him. I remember he gave me a gun when I played for the first time.
>>342969103
I guess some Yakuza aren't prepared for a demon takeover
Too much backtracking but it has its moments.
>>342968731
If what?
>>342970291
"Shin Megami Tensei if..." is the name of the game lol
Psychedelic version.
>>342966235
To even get into one of the dungeons you need to check one of those weird O bull things (and go through the place where you fight beetleguese)
I can't remember why or why it was difficult to figure out but jumping over dialogue is inadvisable
>>342959997
>Is it good?
>I just started playing it.
I've only played SMT I, and it was great until the middle portion, I got tired of all the monster mazes, but it picked up again toward the end. Not terribly excited about II, since I hear it's more of the same, but I'll start playing it next week. I've heard that the story is pretty good at least, so maybe that'll help, though my primary concern in games is gameplay.
>TFW SMT threads never last long because a lack of waifufags
>>342974675
Post you're demonfu.
>>342974675
No one has played SMT I or II.
Make a modern megaten thread that eventually becomes a general and it'll fare better.
OP try to get your hands on the official version of SMT1 for the iOS.
It's essentially a mixture of GBA and PS1 that fixes alot of things and puts it technically on par with SMT2.
>>342974809
Man, I need to play SJ, for multiple reasons, one of which is to see why people are so enamored with her (if the fan art is anything to go by, it's easy to see).
>>342975021
>Android translation never
>>342975021
>iphone
kekkerdekek
>>342974980
>No one has played SMT I or II.
Just like how few Persona fans play Persona 1 and 2. Glad I did, I started with them and I like those, but III and IV are pretty shit as far as I'm concerned. Also started SMT with SMT I (PSX), though I have a feeling I'll like the later SMTs more than the earlier.
>>342975217
Kinda surprised about that, but I guess they don't want to pay for the technical aspects.
>>342975446
>what is iOS emulation
It exists.
>>342975508
>I guess they don't want to pay for the technical aspects
That's because the iOS port of SMT1 flopped. Drowned in a sea of shit that is the App Store, but not like normies would pick it up either way.
>>342975530
>implying i should emulate a shitty os
>>342975776
It's a goddamn shame they wasted their time and effort for a mobile port instead of bundling it with 2 and if and releasing it on a single 3DS cart.
>>342976794
i'd have loved a ds bundle tho (cuz i don't own a 3ds)
shouldn't have been that hard to do using sj's engine
>>342976794
Yeah, it seems a bit inane. Guess they didn't want to pay for the localization of two games.
>>342974675
SMT IV A is the answer
>>342977214
The anarchy route is my head canon.
>>342977214
Hopefully the waifu stuff is just being blown way out of my proportion. Demon waifus are all I need in SMT.
