I'm doing this special correctly but it's not activating, why is that? what am I doing wrong?
Also how does one learning correct combos in fight games?
I don't just want to be pressing buttons.
>>
>>342928805
It almost seems it only work if I'm facing the other way. So if my character facing to the right it'll work.
>>
Part of your problem may be because of said 360 controller (although to be honest I never got used to using it on fighting games). It depends, perhaps you could turn on the training options' setting to show your inputs so you can see at which point you may be messing up.

The best way you can learn combos is to just pretty much practice.

Yeah but I'm trying to learn the basics before spending $150+ on a fightstick.
Also I found when using that character(Brian Battler) his specials are reversed, so if I'm facing to the left like in the picture I need to do the specials the opposite way.
>>
>>342928805
>what am I doing wrong?
yeah, let us telepathically solve your input issues without a video of you doing the input.
>>
>>342928805
KoF doesn't let you cheat out supers as easy as other games. If you can do them on the right but not the left, it's because you're shit and need more practice.

Brian is a shitty character for getting good though.

As for combos, most people go into it with the right mindset.

>Why does everyone use these specific combos, that's boring
>I wanna make my own combos

Barring a very few select characters in fighting games that have an ult mode/super that lets you literally make your own combos, people use specific combos for :

- the most damage without meter
- the most damage with meter
- the "safest" combo (ie safe on block)
- combo that allows for a mix-up
- combo that allows for a reset to clear proration on damage

There are thousands of autistic people that have spent hundreds of hours research what these combos are and writing them down for the internet to use. As a result, there's not really any room for creativity in combos. All the personality in a fighting game boils down to your playstyle in regards to footsies, zoning and mind-games (doing something to get your opponent to react how you want to set up combos, etc)
>>
>>342929691
That's how it is for most fighting games. The commands shown in the command list all refer to the first player (player on the left side of the screen). So if you're on the opposite side of the screen then all commands are reversed in their direction
>>
You have to mirror the input when changing side
Down to right while on left side
Down to left while on right side

Is Ralf's Galactica Phantom cheap? It takes a little over half HP, this must be a downside to it, no?

What's the best, relatively cheap option for a controller for fighting games? Dualshock 3 maybe?

With a 360 pad, you're probably getting a few left/down-left inputs while doing that motion. For fighting games, that controller is absolutely abysmal.

I used to think that too but then I used a DS3. Sweet fucking lord it's so bad in comparison.

That gap would not appear if you did it fast enough.

It's can't be cancelled or anything and leaves you insanely vulnerable, most of the time you can easily jump it, jump over it or roll it.

Total gimmick move.

>>342933696
Powers up his next special or the DM version powers up all his specials for the duration.
You can also combo into it safely which is cool.
>>
KOF 98 inputs aren't exactly easy, and canceling into a lot of supers takes some actual mechanical practice.

Generally the combo system is simply Normal > Command Normal > Special/Super

KOF98UM has a macro for each character that shows a pretty simple BNB, I believe it's RT or LT on a 360 controller. Bar that, it's pretty easy to experiment with KoF characters I find, and you can always look up stuff online in match videos.

I'm trying to get into KoF as well, and I think the Fatal Fury Team has been the easiest for me to get into.
>>
>>342928805
Probably a timing issue i'd say, you can input it right but with the wrong delay

Which KoF should one play?

I have all of them on Steam, but I've played 2002UM the most because it has the biggest roster and really, really great music.

But then I played XIII and Kyo doesn't have the exact same movesets, he even has a "projectile" that follows the ground, kinda like a shoto character. Great music too.

Also, doing anything in these games is super hard. I'm using a Dualshock 3 but often I just can't get moves out. I'm just shit at it, but I do wonder how fast people usually do inputs. I can't imagine reacting to a jumping normal or jumping anything with Kyo's anti-air fireball (I think that's what it's called) move in time. I'm way too slow for that.

Learn your history. Fireball Kyo is his original 94-95 moveset and rekkas came after.
Also rekka Kyo is in XIII as ex version.
>>
>>342946264
mayflash v2
they're on amazon, easy modifiable, dualmod possible with a common ground pcb
but im not a fighter fag i use them for retro games
>>
>>342946352
Oh, right. That's interesting.

I was confused about Kyo's multiple versions anyway. In 2002UM there's normal Kyo, then there's Kyo 1, 2, all with different movesets, I think? I didn't try them all yet.

I wonder why they went back to his '94/'95 moveset in XIII if they refused to for so long.
But it's cool. I think I prefer the one without fireballs but then he's sort of fucked because he has no way to retaliate against others' projectiles.

But then again I'm shit at fighting games so I don't really know!

the d-pad on the 360 is one of the worst ever made. I'm playing dark souls 3 with it atm and half the time i go to switch items(down), I end up putting my weapon away(right)

I just hope he's okay.
>>
>>342948412
>I wonder why they went back to his '94/'95 moveset in XIII if they refused to for so long.
Because of Iori, his rival.
When Iori was introduced in 95, they both had similar ground fireballs and dps.
Then in 96, they decided to make Kyo different and gave him the rekka move set.
In XIII Iori didn't have his flames anymore, so they decided to give Kyo his old moveset back, for that game.

And while I talk like there has been only two Kyos, his moveset has changed a lot across the years. Kyo-1 and Kyo-2 and Kusanagi in 2k2UM are story wise clones of Kyo, but gameplay wise they are remixes of different moves he has had until then.

>But it's cool. I think I prefer the one without fireballs but then he's sort of fucked because he has no way to retaliate against others' projectiles.
Hops over low fireballs, well timed rolls and projectile invincible moves means that character is never without tools against projectile user in KoF.
>>
>>342950079
So I guess that means XIII poses a reversal of the '96 situation, where now Kyo is the one that has the projectiles and Iori has to find a way to deal with it, then?

And yeah, there's plenty of ways to fight projectile users. I keep forgetting there are rolls in these games too. I really should commit to learning them properly.

One can say he's over-rated if Ryu is over-rated himself too.

>It almost seems it only work if I'm facing the other way. So if my character facing to the right it'll work.

... the directions are reversed when your character is facing the other direction.
>>
>>342954875
Have you played Dark Souls?
Yes I am using DaS as an example so we can have a solid ground to grip this.
Have you noticed that in DaS, there is a time when to go in and deal damage and there is a time where you can risk it to deal massive damage but risk are risks so you may get damage, then there are times where you really dont need to go in because you are either being baited to go in or know that going in will lead to your death?

Yeah, spacing and timing. My point here is that there is this meme about KoF that it is an aggressive game, hence when you are playing an aggressive game you need to be totally aggressive too or you lose. You dont need to go aggressive, like at all if the situation deems it, learn when to go in and when to stay out. Spacing and timing fampai
