I Havent played a Resident Evil game since the Ps1 and want to get completely caught up before RE7 next year.
What games do i need to play to get the entire story and in what order?
because i know some side games have important story stuff and there are games that go back in time like RE0.
so i just need a little help.

Play REmake, then Zero, then play RE 2, then RE 3 Nemesis, skip all the stupid Dead Aim bullshit, go to 4, then 5, and then skip 6 because 6 is honestly so fucking terrible it isn't worth the headache. RE 5 at least wraps up the Jill/Chris arc a little.

kek. Capcom just make up shit as they go along and retcon past games all the time. Half the games aren't even connected to each other and just randomly happen to feature the same characters even though it makes little or no sense.
Just play them in release order though.
RE1 > RE2 > RE3 > CV > REmake > RE0 > RE4 and just stop there, though the DLC for RE5 is actually alright. Also I advise playing the Outbreak titles too they are very fun.

We don't know man, it looks like a kind of soft reboot. There were mentions of a group called "The Family" in RE6 but it doesn't seem to be related to the family in the demo.
The first person gameplay makes me think it's gonna be a reboot with some references here and there.

RE1 port on DS also has first person segments. It's not a new thing to the series at all.

Yeah, fuck Umbrella Corps, the whole idea of a competitive RE game makes me want to vomit.
DSC is not as good as UC, mostly because of the shaky cam, but it's worth it for the RE2 segments, dat Birkin.
The first person gameplay is not new to the series, buy having a main game play in full first person view is a sign that RE wants to appeal to the youtuber horror game screaming kids, which is not a good thing at all.

The running/walking animations are the best part of RE5 and 6. Other than that, they're total trash.
I fucking hate the first person gameplay. It doesnt even feel like Resident evil anymore. If you want to make the game scary just fucking up the difficulty and get better enemy design

Dead Aim is perfectly fine, especially considering it's pre-RE4. The Outbreak games have a fan server up, the multiplayer is still fun.
Resident Evil 6 owns it's up there with Vanquish, Binary Domain, Gears of War 2 etc as the best third person shooter of last gen.

It's pretty bad. Easily the worst of the mainline series, it aged terribly in terms of gameplay and visuals (not that graphics matter but it seriously kills the atmosphere when everything looks like a muddy blurry early 3D polygonal mess compared to the crisp backgrounds of all the other games).

If you played the original PS1 games then all you need is to play the REmake, and Zero. Everything RE4+ is trash. If they would have gone with completely new characters in 4+ I probably wouldn't care, but they just had to fuck up everything.
Umbrella Chronicles is actually a good way to catch up even though it's a light gun game, has lots of info that ties everything RE0-3 together nicely.

I've liked almost all RE games, even spinoffs. But RE1 was still the best, or at least, my favorite. A 1st person RE1 is what RE7 is sounding like, which is incredible.
I guarantee I like RE more than you. What I like about it is its IP, which can easily be transferred over to a 1st person setting, not just successfully but for its own betterment.

It was a step backwards from RE3. I know they were developed side by side, but CV was meant to be the next gen more advanced game and it literally looked worse and played worse than the previous gen RE3.
The quick turn felt sloppy and hastily added. We went back to cutscenes for walking up stairs unlike RE3 having multiple height levels traversable in one camera angle. It also removed that A/B choice that RE3 had at several moments that served to enhance replay value by making each playthrough different with new bonus areas.
Also ammo crafting was gone, but some people didn't like that in RE3 so I will let it slide even though I enjoyed it.
CV felt like a one step forwards, two steps back game.
