You mean the character himself, how he is presented, how he behaves, reacts, moves, looks, and emotes? His general style and personality presented through the games's cutscenes, his sound effects, his animations, his design, his expressions, his actions, his poses, how he is presented?

Euurrrr... Kinda agree, Kinda dont. I will admit it was annoying seeing Kirby as some kinda boring child like character until he got a copy ability. But he wasn't awful.

Hostile take over, his intentions may have been what he percieved to be good, but he was thirsty for more power and control. He wants to whip lazy, soft, sleepy Dream Land into a land of strength, honor, and fierceness, and he wants to be the best of them all, and for everyone to know his strength. He's a major egoist like Dedede, but he's much more of a megalomaniac and schitzo.

I'm pretty sure it was trying to break up the sun and moon from fighting, to fullfill Kirby's wish. Marx was a serious threat to Dream Land, but he wasn't more dangerous and destructive than the Meta-Knights in my opinion.
>>
>>342872071
Kirby was always a retarded faggot until he got a power, in both games and anime.
Beside the backstory was good.

Kirby didn't get a chance to ask for a wish, and in that case why would Kirby attack NOVA

Marx wishes to control popstar and it agrees then goes right to it to do the job, the sun and moon put aside their differences to protect pop star while Kirby goes inside NOVA, its kinda obvious IMO

There's a difference between naive and carefree and a literal baby who can't do anything on his own, the point of Kirby is that most of the time he can get through everything WITHOUT any abilities.

In the games he's always acting independently, he's shown living a life, fishing, resting, doing shit, in the anime he needs to be babysat and is useless until Tiff cries enough

>oh no someone's attacking Dream Land
>Kirby beats up half of the planet and teaches them a lesson, all on his own

>Oh no Dedede summoned another monstah to clobber kirbeh
>Kirby gets his ass beat until Tiff calls the warp star and he gets a power

You're probably mostly right, but why would NOVA destroy something he promised someone control over? More likely he was going to use magic to make everyone obey Marx or make them too weak to rebel or something, or maybe just stick around and be Marx's henchman to make sure things go over well. His reason to go up to Pop Star is unclear.

>>
>>342879534
I blame the anime for making him more blank and boring. Also his face is a lot bigger on his body now, less room for expression

>>
>>342879534
There's somethings lost when going to 3D but i still think he's expressive, just not as over the top in one frame like on sprites

On the flip side I feel bosses have never been more expressive and lively before. Even background characters like Taranza move around expressively, and what was floating polygons in 64 is actually cool in PR

Man, I always preferred Adventure but I never noticed how much of a difference there really was. Level 8/Fountain of Dreams especially is fucking dull as hell in NiDL.
>Doesn't walk away from the title & boarder
>Kirby lacks any expression when Dedede begs him not to do it
>Fountain of Dreams doesn't lighten up looking restored before Nightmare pops out

The only positive out of the remake (at least when it comes to level intros) I think was the additional pirate hat in Orange Ocean & obviously overall more colors.
>>
>>342881515
He's still got idle animations, he'll scout out the environment, curious as to what's ahead, or stretch and yawn after a long journey

>>342881896
While not as obvious, I really enjoyed Kirby's expression on PR's ending cutscene as he looks out towards MK, he has this moment where he's taken aback from admiration before waving happily, its small but such a nice touch for their otherwise unexplored relationship
>>
>>342882675
Adventure is better from a gameplay perspective. In NiDL the sprites are bigger and the levels are smaller due to the screen. Also the tight physics of adventure were made more floaty. Also a lot of little details were lost, such as the examples you gave.

Also adventure looks more aesthetically pleasing, that's more my opinion though.

>>

>>
>>342899843
Revenge of Meta Knight > Milky way wishes = Great cave offensive = Dynablade > Gourmet race > spring breeze

If we count KSSU ones then Revenge of the king is tied with Revenge of Meta Knight and Meta Knightmare returns is above Dynablade.
>>
That's nice, but can we all take a moment to pray to our lord and savior Sir Meta Knight?
>>
I feel like Kirby's official art always gets some details wrong, like they're based on the sprites without the designer's input. For the 2D games anyway.
Like how sparky's hands are his eyes and his eyes are nostrils in KA, how Meta Knight is missing his shoulder spikes in KA, how Chilly has nub arms instead of ball hands in KA, or how Ado looks like her sprite and good end drawing instead of instead of how she looks in the intro, credits, and boss butch in DL3. Anyone else notice that?
>>
I want wandering encounters, like in Dyna Blade. It'd make the world maps a little more interactive

It could also be that wishes granted by novas have ironic twists. Like, Marx gets to control Pop Star, but Pop Star is going to be destroyed by colliding with that nova, or in Planet Robobot, where Haltmann reactivated Star Dream to wish for Susie back, but then somehow forgot about her

>Implying Meta Knight isn't a better candidate
He was willing to fight all of Dreamland to stop them from being so damn lazy.
>>
>>342902356
You mean a monkey paw effect. That isn't really how it works, they grant the wish in an ironic way (like wish to be a powerful leader and you are sent through time to become Hitler, wish for all the books in the world and they crush you, or wish to jump really well and you become a frog) not tack random unrelated shit on to make the wish suck. I don't think NOVA does that anyway, he seems a direct wish granter.

Star Dream couldn't actually grant wishes because none of his parts were properly installed, he couldn't generate or gather magic as NOVA did with his tweezers, globe, pendulum, etc

its probably very old, not necessarily broken but definitely worn down, everything is cluttered on top of it, his eyes are droopy by default, in contrast to something like >>342904529 which is a brand new exterior in a sense and probably based on the original design.

I don't really see what else exposed cogs could signify to be honest, so its not like PR reconnected it into being old and worn down by comparison alone

Star Dream itself probably designed it, we see they clearly left most of the development in charge of the mother computer (Robots, Clones, Mecha Knight). It naturally accommodated for its intended look and function, why else would it conveniently be able to plug in and expose a NOVA face, not to mention summoning the various objects which are apparently really important, or the Core using the same sort of defense as NOVA's core

>>342905482
As I say above the objects are still really important to it, it just started carrying them around after a while, maybe they broke, maybe its too much effort to summon them or keep them organized. Its the kind of cluttered that tells years of age and loss of care, I don't think it detracts form his aesthetic anyways, gives him attitude from its age as supposed to just being made like that. there's making things out of whatever you find around and having it cluttered, then there's well planned wish granting doodads cluttered around the universe with mechanisms in place to summon them, you probably make those pristine at first
>>
>>342904529
Well, Nova is only seen at the core of Star Dream, after you break much of it apart. It's probably been taken by Haltmann, repaired and put inside for its power.
That's what I think, unless I've missed some lore somewhere.

Nah, I imagine Nova was invented by some Hephaestus type clockmaker entity, not a team of scientists or a company who would design it to look like Star Dream. Not too preoccupied in making ot sleek or pretty, it was designed to actually work and give an air of mystique.

>>
>>342906660
The gears are out of place. You're not supposed to see the internal workings, whether it was designed to be "sleek" or not. But it's old and the facade is obviously not important to its function, so now that part is missing.

Even then I doubt they intended to have exposed machinery and a broken panel, if a clockmaker wanted to expose that shit they'd install a window

What gives NOVA's mystique and intrigue is that it IS old and broken, just looking at it says its got a lot of history and there's wonder of what any of that shit is for and how it got there or why. Star Dream gives us a look at what it might've looked like original but we could've guessed as much, and there's still a lot of wonder as to who made it or why, and how NOVA got to its own state

If they'd made it intentionally broken then all mystique is gone, why is it look this wya? oh because they made it so, nothing more. That's boring

You keep just barely missing the real picture, Star Dream itself is modernized, but the True Arena version is more like what NOVA originally was, just have not-special ring on top and remove the half planet attached to it. It still screams of some specific design, its a literal comet, a star you wish upon, a sun, and they gave it a fantastical motif and a lovable friendly face that's borderline creepy in its attempt to be comfortable.
>>
>>342907389
I still disagree, but I had fun reading your opinion.
>>
So what's /v/'s explanation for the state Star Dream is in during Meta Knightmare? The slash on Soul OS indicates that mode is canon, which is consistent with KSSU and TD.

I think it had Meta Knight and Galacta Knight battle to observe and probably take control of/assimilate the strongest being it could, but Galacta Knight attacked it and put a stop to that plan. Maybe it was able to put the Ark back together around itself, but in an unpowered state, and needed a power source? Then somehow it was able to revive itself as Soul OS.
>>

I've thought about this for long; and came to the conclusion that KDL & 2 are the best Kirby games. Being a game about dodging enemy fire and returning their leftovers is much more exciting than giving the sword 20 moves. They're just too slow to really be good games. Newer Kirby games have a lot of shine, but no substance. And I 100%'d TD and PR

How would you write a "happy" ending for them?

>Sectonia: Her original body is buried within the Dreamstalk. Joining forces with Taranza, you fight your way down and to tear her from its center. She awakens with no recollection of the Dimension Mirror or anything that happened during the events of TD. The duo leaves on relatively good terms with Kirby, with Sectonia being none the wiser.

>Haltmann: Bonus stage involves entering Star Dream's mainframe al a Tron and destroying it from the inside. Haltmann's soul is partitioned, salvaged and ultimately spared with Kirby prior to the destruction of Access Ark. He reconciles with his memories and reunites with Susie, the two stay behind on Popstar to help make amends with its natives.

Fair points, I guess I do replay KDL more than any other Kirby game, but I think Super Star's movesets are cool. Not necessary or the be-all-and-end-all of Kirby, but still fun. They make them a little too bloated in the latest games I guess, and they all lose distinctness because of it. If anything make them smaller and tighter, not bigger and more viable.

KDL3 and KSS are still my favories though.
>>
>>342907920
The canonicity of the extra modes gets weird because of the content reuse, but I think they can sorta work if you ignore some the inconsistencies or oddities

After the main game Access Ark comes back, doesn't necessarily re-mechanize everything and Susie or Haltmann aren't back, but MK does go face it while Kirby naps, and faces off against its gauntlet. Afterwards it picks itself back up and threatens Pop Star again by going Soul OS, so MK gets Kirby and the Halberd up.

There might also be considerations to be made regarding the portals, in that one level of access ark you're basically transported to a virtual dimension through these portals (which almost looks like a replicate Another Dimension), so all of MKR could comfortably take place in simulations set up by Star Dream inside Access Ark, same for the True Arena, bar the last battle
>>
>>342908840

That's absurd hyperbole. The game's difficulty relative to its older sequels is no different from that of any comparable long-running platformer series -- Sonic and Mario being good comparisons. As for environments mechanics etc., it certainly diversified more over the course of its world than any of the first generations of Kirby games, which are, as you said, start to finish "avoid attack, spit star at enemy."

If Sectonia would come back, I'd make it so she would have her memories of right before her transformation.
Only some time after her rebirth she became blind and wouldnt be able to see herself or judge her looks ever again.
And then Taranza appears with shocked, teary and happy expressions, as she is alive again and then he says some cheesy line about inner beauty and then he takes her and they live happily ever after.
Then cue cute scenes of him holding her hand and guiding her through the world that she will never see again
>>
>>342909562
Factually wrong, your opinions and preferences aren't the end all. You're not making any insightful critique with such a vague statement that could apply to something like Dream Land just as well, in what sense does it evolve? Dedede is still suck star spit star back, and he's not particularity harder to doge or require any new techniques to do so. In fact, DL spent most of its last boss retreading old bosses, how is that an evolution? And if we're talking Robobot's complete change of genre over the final boss, DL2 falls for the same trick

Current games evolve just as much as previous ones, even if you have no difficulty on the last boss or world its still more difficult, the stakes and dangers are ramped up as the games progress and bosses become more menacing and dangerous, the game basically ends in a OHKO ffs

Ok /v/, help me understand this: Why was Haltmann trying to invade Popstar to get his daughter back? And how did he not recognize Susie as his daughter?
>>
>>342910617
Ah, I see. I thought you were referring to his characterization.

Yes, I suppose he's probably gone, then. Unless his memories and personality were backed up elsewhere in the database. It was implied that Haltmann began offloading certain aspects of his character that he felt unnecessary to running the company (hence why he couldn't recognize his own daughter), so who knows?
>>
>>342911134
Driven to madness and only lives for the company. He was so obsessed with Star Dream reviving his daughter that he couldn't see what was right in front of him.
>>
>>342911134
It's not ostensibly explained, but one way to interpret is Haltmann researched and poured resources into Star Dream so it could bring Susie back, but along the way it was slowly assuming control of him and tampering with his own personality and memories. At some point it either brought Susie back, or she came back another way, but by the time she met Haltmann again he was already so far gone that he didn't recognize her. At that point it was Star Dream more than Haltman, going to other planets in search of power.
>>
>>342911134
His greed and anger blinded him.
I just want to know if Susie knew that Haltmann was her father. I'm pretty sure she did, but not 100% sure.

>>342911134
Pop Star is just one of many planets they invaded, they've targeted other planets in the past, Pop Star was actually really enticing compared to their usual victims, but that's beyond the point

The planet invasions served to gather resources, data and knowledge to feed back into Star Dream and the plans of prosperity, while he originally started pouring all that work into SD to bring her back, his madness probably led him to forget why and focus on prosperity and world ending, as well as not noticing who Susie was. It seems he blocked out the whole ordeal since it was so painful, that one boss description he has to remind himself why he ever activated it int he first place, meaning he long forgot in his madness and obsession

Also Susie was a bit different as a child
>>
>>342911245
I don't buy that he just didn't know who she was, I think he was brainwashed. The second to last description in >>342910617 implies that he's just remembering after a long time why he even wanted Star Dream functional in the first place.

>>342911317
>>342911506
I think she knows, but is understandably upset that he doesn't seem to remember or care who she is. "I just wanted to teach the old man a lesson."
>>
>>342911523
Right, my point is they're saying he's completely gone as in, no trace of him is influencing Star Dream anymore and it's now an emotionless machine. But that doesn't necessarily mean that all traces of him are destroyed, just not part of Star Dream.
>>
>>342911317
>>342911506
I'm sure she knew, it makes sense that she would want to get back at him if she remembered the incident and placed the blame on him and Star Dream. You have to remember Haltmann didn't ever tell anyone about the incident or his daughter, and only ever seemed to care for the project. Its a bit of theatrical irony, in spending so much time trying to bring her back he loses himself and doesn't recognize that she's back, which in turns furthers her away form him as she resents him from seemingly meaning to make her disappear, so she never cares to reveal her identity and ultimately seals his fate with her revenge plan.

Yeah, I thought that was pretty obvious. Although that raises the question of how he thought he could get Susie back? Unless the idea was that he needed to perfect Star Dream first, turn into a real wish-granting Nova, so then he could safely wish for her to return.
>>
>>342912228

Well Star Dream did bring back Galacta Knight. Maybe Haltmann was trying to get it to locate Susie by searching Another Dimension
>>
>>342913707
Considering the first thing Galacta Knight upon being summoned was incapacitate Star Dream, I doubt it. Dunno whether that was because of previous experience with Nova (although I kind of thought his re-sealing in KSSU was just sort of a consequence of his being defeated, not that Nova sealed him), or because he knew Star Dream wanted to control him.

Also a detail I just noticed replaying True Arena today, Galacta Knight flies away after his defeat by Kirby, instead of getting sucked back into the void.

64 Kirby is best Kirby because it's one of the few times he's not acting like a cutesy naive retard

>game starts with him chilling and watching the stars, rather then him chasing a cake around or some shit
>>
>>342914829
At least Galacta Knight doesn't get the cheap shit, his mask is sturdy.

>and I even commented once that she doesn't necessarily have to be, but everyone still threw her into robot fetish threads
Well congrats anon, too bad you weren't posting under a name so you can't collect your free "I was right on the internet" points.

So Borb is a pussy.
Galacta Knight keeps fighting until he is completely defeated.

Something to think about, why did Haltmann's soul merge with Star Dream? Would things have really gone any different had the controller been used properly? I think there might not have been the identity error but Haltmann was still willingly uploading his consciousness in order to control Star Dream, or "activate it" as he says.

It seems to work and follow orders fine regardless, why the controller? so maybe its true potential is harnessed via a mental and spiritual link, which got fudged by the early removal, hence the final description mentioning how it went from near-perfect (partial soul link) back to a cold machine once Haltmann was erased (no soul link at all).

It's a relic from the days when powers were unique instead of being samey SuperStar style clones with
>melee combo
>grab
>charge attack
>weird input up-down move
>special guard
Hi-Jump had a specific purpose and it was very good at that purpose- and if you were good enough, you could use it for whatever you pleased.

I bet you hate Ball too.
>>
>>342915134
Interesting idea. Maybe it needs the extra soul link to make up for the fact that it doesn't have that ancient magical Halcandran clockwork powering it.

All are better than Super Star.

I mainly disliked ball because I kept breaking the floor and dying as a kid.

Plants and animals are organic machines, robots like Quote and Curly are not.
>>
>>342914941
How is it any different? If everything else is "cutesy naive retard" then surely lazing around star gazing is as well, he's usually chilling just as much

TD has him go through a productive day before going to sleep and starting the story, you call fishing cutesy naive retard? Not to mention he's fishing in DL3's start, so its not uncommon for him to do shit other than sleep around or play

He probably activated it previously for test runs, as a responsible R&D worker would, and realized it was completely psychotic, so he extended the project to involve a manual controller in order to keep said psychosis from interfering with its purpose.

But of course if the shareholders knew his Star Dream project had gone nuts it would have been bad for his stocks, so he kept it to himself. And so Suzie didn't know.

then why do they feel the need to reproduce like organic life forms?
>>
>>342915853
There's no reason to make a robot human-like if you're not going to give them sex features. Curly and Quote are probably based on a generic model that's used for everything from soldiers to secretaries to sex workers.
>>
>>342915853
Kinda reminds me of Lilims from Valhalla.
Designed to replicate humanity very closely down to biological functions.
>>
>>342915383
You're talking about the game with two breaths (fire/ice), three weapon swings (sword/hammer/parasol) and three aoe attacks (spark/needle/freeze), all of which are nearly identical bar special environment interactions which are present in current games

Quote was just taking a nap, then a completely innocent bunny decided to cuddle. That is all.

Any inorganic machine could be programmed to do that.

how does one take high res screenshots like that? i've got an emulator but i know nothing about how to use it.

Getting tired of that mentality. Not everything is about being better than the others, they're all good.

I actually would say that Meta Knight's wish isn't granted just fine due to the fact that Meta Knight is victorious, meaning he is the greatest swordsman rather than Galaxia Knight. If his wish would granted perfectly, wouldn't he fight Shadow Meta Knight?

I asked it before, I'll ask it again. What faction would you prefer to be a part of in the Kirby-verse? Training with the Meta-Knights? Serving the perfect king in his castle? Getting paid mad stacks with Haltmann Works Co.? Adventuring with Magolor? Maybe you'd prefer to be part of the Dark Matter hivemind? Or treasure hunting with the Squeaks?

Anything that isn't your personal favorite, that shit was trash

Actually with that said, such a statement in seriousness is almost guaranteed to be aimed at either Shimomura or Kumazaki, it seems Sakurai usually remains untouched while people fight over the other two
