For a long time, I would buy games and not have time to play them, due to work and such things. A lot of times, I'd see them super-cheap on sale. On the off chance that I might not want to play the game when I actually found time to play, I just kept them in the inventory, so I could at least trade them away. That way, I could still buy them for a few dollars, but they wouldn't lose value if I wanted to trade 'em. Also, if the game was in a cheap-o bundle somewhere, I could buy the bundle, activate the code myself, and have a copy to give away to a friend or trade or whatever.
Then Steam made it impossible to trade shit without logging into five different places and waiting fifteen days and shit. So I just opened them all. Had 131 games total I opened in one day.
I mean, just to give you an example, I got Hate Plus and Analogue for 49 cents each in some Valentine's Day sale two years ago and just shoved them in my inventory. Now they're $14. (Still haven't played it, but I plan on playing them both when I finish Nekopara's "trilogy.")

I feel the pain. I used to be a pretty avid collector of Steam cards too. I have about 700 of them. But then they implemented returns, so no one gives trading cards until you play the game for six hours now, instead of 30 minutes to an hour like it used to be, and you can't easily move them on the marketplace without waiting for weeks, it is all just a hassle now so I quit giving a shit.
