It's valid to play in easy-mode if harder difficulties only turn enemies into bullet-sponges and make combat a dull grind with no increase in actual difficulty.
A good difficulty slider forces high risk-reward play, making the player a glass-cannon, but also leaving enemy health untouched.

shouldn't it be the other way around? Stealth was way too easy in this game and you could cheese through everything pretty easily. Lethal was more of a hassle. No ammo , especially in the ebginning and you don't even get anything from it. Non-lethal and stealth even gave you more exp.

NO. Play an action game if you want to to run into every single encounter guns blazing.
I did GMDE Pacifist on my first run and did fine, did all side quests, saved Malik and found plenty of secrets in a hearty 30 hour file, the exact same time it took me to finish my first DX1 file.
The enemy AI is awful though.
MGS vision-cone AI doesn't translate well to a pseudo-FPS.

Stealth is generally unaffected. Your health and battery regeneration is slower on hard while the enemies have the usual health + damage buff plus better aim.
Being a gun Blazer on hard is probably a challenge but I can't be bothered to try as I always default to sneaking.
