i guess it was just technological advancement. i played them both as a kid. if i remember right, Myst came on one CD and Riven came on some crazy number of CDs. pretty sure it was more than four. the CD sleeves had the D'ni numbers on them, which i remember thinking was neat.

Yes, I'd say so. Don't skip out on the journals, especially the ones in the library, as they help set up a lot of the backstory.
The Boku no Natsuyasumi games are really pretty. Great atmosphere especially in terms of time of day. Super comfy if you like the countryside.

there was supposed to be another story arc about Deathbringer and his armies, involving the sirens and the mermaid girl, Flameshe.Deathbringer was going to set her on fire in the last quest of the story arc because he thought it was ironic for a mermaid to have a name with flame in it.i guess time constraints + some of the devs thinking it was too gruesome led to the arc getting cut.
it's kind of obvious something is missing in hindsight, because there's at least two missions in and around Polpota Harbor involving Deathbringer's army, Thoma and his brother Thona, and then you actually meet and fight Deathbringer in the Bone Fortress... but it never really goes anywhere despite a bunch of NPCs, including party members, talking about it and being involved with it. the only major arc Deathbringer isn't mentioned in at all is the Faerie arc.

I was hoping to see this when I opened the thread. Origins and Legends are really great. The music, the colourful, detailed backgrounds, fluid gameplay...it all adds up to greatness.
